DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. BAYFRONT CAFE - MORNING
Dr. Brecker, his wife MARIE, and his daughter ANGELA are sitting at a table.
INT. - BAYFRONT CAFE - MORNING
The family sits at the table, eating breakfast. Soft pop plays faintly in the background.
MARIE
(Concerned)
'My love, why aren't you eating your food? You need to grow strong and healthy so you can win your soccer matches.'
Angela, who has earthquake powers, is the daughter of Dr. Warren Brecker and Marie, around 13 years old, speaks up.
ANGELA
(sighing)
'Mom, I'm already strong, plus I don't want to play soccer anymore!'
MARIE
(worryingly)
'Why not? Is it boring, are you getting bullied? Tell me, you know you can trust us...'
Dr. Brecker suddenly interrupts.
DR. BRECKER
'Sweetie, It's alright. She doesn't want to play anymore, don't force anything on her.'
Dr. Brecker grabs a Napkin, gets up from his seat, and walks towards the bathroom.
DR. BRECKER
(faintly)
'..I'll be back, don't eat my food!'
MARIE
(Quickly)
'Who's bullying you on your soccer team?'
She adjusts her plate and leans towards her daughter's face.
ANGELA
(frustrated)
'no one is! You make me so mad sometimes, I can't stand it. Why can't you just stop prying into my life!? I don't wanna play soccer anymore! It's not fun and I just don't like it! I wanna do something else! Can't you understand that!'
Angela stands up. Tables start to shake in the cafe as well as surrounding objects.
Intercut.
Dr. Brecker washes his hands in the bathroom.
DR. BRECKER
'Whoa, what in the world happening?! We haven't had earthquakes since a couple of years ago.'
ANGELA
(shouting)
'...You always want to butt your way into my life!'
The shaking becomes more intense and the cafe building begins to shift. Marie stands up. Angela backs away from her shaking her head. The shaking around Angela is most vigorous.
MARIE
'Sweetie! Calm down!'
Dr. Brecker runs out of the bathroom and tries to reach his family. Angela tries to calm herself.
DR. BRECKER
(urgently)
'I'm coming for you, stay right there!'
Marie and Angela, wide-eyed and scared, stare straight at him as the building continues to shake intensely.
ANGELA
Mom! I don't feel so good, my head hurts...
MARIE
Angela, try to calm down and breathe. Remember that breathing technique I showed you?
ANGELA
'I already did that! It's not working!'
Angela grabs her head and screams. The ceiling starts to collapse. Dr. Brecker is forced outside through the back.
EXT. MORNING - BAYFRONT CAFE
The left side of the Bayfront Cafe starts to crumble down. A catastrophic earthquake ensues, but Dr. Brecker made it out from the building with a few injuries and a deep cut on his face, looking for Marie and Angela.
CUT TO:
Dr. Brecker searching through the rubble. Moves rubble to find exposed Marie's hand. Digs urgently. Uncovers dead Marie and Angela.
DR. BRECKER
(wailing)
'Why God?!'
He Sobs. People stare and try digging in the background.
DR. BRECKER
'Why did this happen to me?'
