6 : Meeting His Parents

You were excited but also anxious to meet his parents. What if they thought that you "just weren't right for Shawn" or if you weren't "good enough". Shawn was comfortingly reassuring you on the other hand. "You'll be fine babe." But you knew he was lying. Shawn talked about his dad not liking you. It felt even worse because Shawn was trying to hide that. "Don't lie to me, Shawn. I know that your father doesn't like me." I look over at Shawn. He keeps his eyes on the road, but bites his lip.

 "I know, I know. But don't worry. If I convinced Dad to let you come over for dinner, then I can certainly convince him to accept you." He was partly right in your mind. Shawn just had this charm that could convince anyone. Shawn parks his vehicle in the Mendes estates driveway and you both exit the car. Shawn looked relaxed, but you felt like your knees getting weak and it felt like your stomach weighed a million pounds. You both walk to the entrance and ring the doorbell. You take a deep breath. This was happening.

Shawn's Point of View

I hear Moms feet shuffling to the doorway. She opens it and greets us. "Hello!" she says sweetly. I smile and give my loving mother a hug. "Hello Y/N" Mom says giving her a hug. "Hello Mrs. Mendes" Y/N said politely. We go inside and I see Aaliyah eating grapes on the kitchen counter and Dad reading a book with concentration. "Hey Liyah, hey Dad" I say. He doesn't look up. I look at mom and she shakes her head. "Good evening, Mr. Mendes." Y/N says.

 He looks up and then back down at his book. I let out a sigh. I didn't understand what was wrong with Y/N. She was perfect for me. But Dad didn't see that in her. Maybe he would today. "Alright, let's get prepared for dinner." Mom says warmly. Y/N helps out on setting the dinner table while Dad puts away his book and glares at me. We sit down and start eating. There was so much tension. I could see that Y/N had a look of nervousness on her. I put my hand under the table and entwined my fingers between hers.

 "So, Y/N,what are the plans for your future? Dad quizzes. Y/N smiled." I'm planning on becoming a writer. After high school, I'll go to college and do something in literature. " She said that like it was rehearsed. Dad was silent." Don't you think you could go for a more... Stable job?" he asked. Y/N was silent. Dad looked at me." Anyways, are your parents okay with this relationship? " Y/N squeezed my hand. She was scared to tell the truth. But the Y/N that was in love was brave, so she didn't hold back in replying Dad. 

" I don't want any misunderstandings, so I'll be honest. No. My parents don't know. But I'm sure they'll accept a guy who'll treat their daughter right." She said confidently. I was so proud of her. I wonder why she was getting so nervous. She's phenomenal. Dad looked at me again
" This is what I mean Shawn. She has an unstable future plan and is hiding such an important thing from her parents. God knows what she'll do in the future to you. What if she... Cheats on you or just... Backs out?! " Y/N's grip on my hand tightened. "It's not like that Dad. She wants to be a writer. There's nothing wrong with it. Writers can be successful. And she's hiding this from her parents. They're extremely strict. When the time is right, she'll tell them. And Y/N's not the type of girl to cheat on a guy. The Y/N I know loves with all that she has. I wouldn't date her in the first place if she had a bad reputation! " Dad looks at me in shock.

 "Don't talk back to me like that!" I look back at my father. "I think I should take Y/N home now." I say grabbing her hand and dragging her out the door. We get outside and Y/N stops me. "Shawn, why did you say that?!" she asked perplexed and slightly annoyed for behaving rudely towards my own father. "Do you not understand what he said to you?! I can't just let the love of my life get insulted like that!!" I said, enraged. I pull Y/N into a passionate kiss, holding her by the waist. We release the kiss and hold hands. We look at each other full of love and I plant a kiss on her forehead." Nobody's gonna hurt you ever as long as I'm with you. " Y/N smiles and we kiss one more time, just to show each other how much we love one another.
