47 : So This Is Love

The lady in the shimmering dress sighed while glancing around the magnificent ballroom. There stood many princesses, giggling in a ladylike manner. And there were many princes, chatting up the women with their charm and good looks. None were fit for the young lady standing alone though. She was just busy thinking about her own life.

Of course, a few men had glanced at her, asking her to dance. But she had politely declined the proposal, for she didn't have any interest in dancing with a prince who was going to dance with another woman in just a matter of minutes. The orchestra soothingly played a tune of classical music, calming the girl down.

She sighed again, debating on whether she should call her carriage and go back to her palace. But there was something stopping her. An unexplainable force in her brain had stopped her from moving away. She decided to escape the rather large ballroom and stand in the balcony, overlooking the bright kingdom that she had known since childhood.

Just as she was walking, the lady fell into the hands of a complete and utter stranger. A pair of strong hands were grasping onto her upper arms while she placed her petite palms on the mans chest. She looked up and gasped, pulling away in an instance. " I apologize. I should have looked where I was going." She spoke, curtsying with her head hung low.

The man chuckled, smiling whilst revealing his perfectly aligned teeth. " You have no need to apologize. " He stated, taking a step closer to her. She raised her head and studied his face. The mans chocolate hair was messily hanging over his forehead, unlike all the men she had seen today. His caramel glazed orbs made a warm feeling spread through her veins.

His outfit consisted of a blue suit with golden buttons that shone in the light and a ivory shirt peeking out from underneath. He was wearing navy blue pants, a golden stripe going down the outside of the leg part. A silver ring with a feather adorned his finger. She blushed as she realized that she was poring over his appearance. " What is such a gorgeous lady doing here without a dance?" He questioned, a grin tugging at the corner of his plump pink lips.

The woman chuckled. " There's nobody right for me. Yet I stayed, just to see what the night would set before me." She disclosed. He nodded his head gently, examining her face. " It seems as if you were thinking of something." He stated, his carefree expression soon changing to a bit more worried. The girl smiled and fixed her bright yellow dress, considering whether to tell this complete stranger the truth.

She smiled as she thought of a response. " You must know by now that life doesn't get any simpler as we age." The boy kept his gaze on her, but didn't reply for a few seconds. He thought of one, parting his lips to say something. " Well, I believe that life was never simple. Our eyes were just too young in the past to see what was complex. " He smiled and looked down at his feet, shoving his hands in his pockets.

" You're one poetic man." The lady complimented. The boy blushed, smiling as though he was already attached to her. " Thank you. But I am more of musical prince. " He responded, signalling to the orchestra over by the dancing area. He looked at her again, both of them making eye contact for a brief moment. " Why, I forgot to ask," The girl stammered, " What is your name?" The boy grinned. " Shawn." He said.

" I'm Y/N." The girl stuttered again, smiling politely. Shawn leaned in, grabbing her hand gently. " What a beautiful name for an equally beautiful girl." He whispered. She inhaled sharply as she realized she was on the dance floor, surrounded by well dressed princes and princesses. He held her waist whilst she carefully placed her hand on his shoulder. Y/N swallowed nervously.

She had never been a good dancer. This was one of the reasons why she avoided dancing with anyone during a ball. After all, she was always told that men wanted a graceful lady. But, maybe Shawn was different. Maybe he didn't need elegant. Maybe he needed something different. Something to spice things up. " Are you okay with this?" He questioned, looking her in the eye. They both started to glide along the smooth marble floor.

Y/N smiled and nodded. " Of course." She assured. Shawn twirled her around, making sure she kept her balance. She stepped on his feet once in a while, or maybe stumbling in her tracks if Shawn went to fast. But he would make sure that she didn't fall. Soon, Y/N got the hang of it, sliding around the ballroom floor as if she was a figure skater. Shawn held onto the small of her back as she leaned back, Shawn's warm breath fanning against her neck.

Without Y/N realizing, her tied up hair had fallen out, her long locks tumbling down her back. She gasped as she was just about to stop the man before her. " Just continue." He whispered into her ear. She gulped and nodded, her hair flowing majestically around her as she continued to dance with Shawn. The music sped, therefore so did the two.

Shawn and Y/N were dancing at an unbelievable speed. Doing glides, twirls, lifts, and all of the above. Never once did they stop. However, the other dancers around them halted in their tracks just to see how magnificently the two were dancing. As if they had rehearsed for hours upon hours. The two looked completely and utterly flawless to the crowd around them. And for the first time in forever, the girl felt content.

After what felt like days of dancing, the large clock located in the equally colossal palace rang. Shawn looked up at the clock, his smile gradually fading away. He let go of her hand, running towards the door while the whole crowd broke into murmurs on why the prince had abruptly left. Y/N chased after him, calling his name over and over again. Soon they were outside, Shawn's back facing her. Y/N was out of breath.

" Why did you suddenly leave?" She asked, stepping closer. He swallowed nervously and kept his gaze on the moonlit kingdom. " I have to go. My parents are taking me to Paris to get me married. I might not ever see you again. " He whispered, turning around slowly. Y/N's heart crumbled. The only man that had made her happy in a matter of hours was leaving. " Please, don't go. " She pleaded, stepping closer to him, holding his hands in her own.

He shook his head, looking at her with tears welling in his eyes. " I must go. " He whispered, letting her hands go and sauntering over to his carriage. " Wait!" The princess yelled. The boy turned around, facing her. The girl ran up to him, colliding her lips onto his. After a few seconds of hesitation, he wrapped her arms around her waist. Y/N cupped his face, savouring the taste of his honey-like sweetness.

They broke the kiss looking at each other with thorough admiration. Y/N smiled weakly, holding his hands again. " Could you atleast write to me?" She begged, tears forming in her eyes. The boy nodded, kissing her forehead. " I promise." He spoke in a hushed voice. He let go of her hand slowly, jogging to his carriage. He sat inside, waving goodbye to her while a tear rolled down his cheek. The girl balled up her hands against her chest, feeling something cold on the inside.

She opened it to find his silver ring, " Forever." etched on the inside. She let out a choked sob, slipping it onto her finger. She examined it with love, caressing it's beautiful engravings. After much thought, she realized not every princess had a happy ending.

But every princess will be left with memories.
