my skin smelled of salt water and sunscreen.
as we drove back to our temporary paradise
i opened the window
and let the wind cool my sun-kissed face.
the air smelled of store bought flowers
and i felt sand still stuck between my fingers.
no, the day might not have been perfect
but it was a start.
-welcoming summer and all it might bring
Drivers Ed class 50% complete in two days
I'll finish far before I take the permit test next week.
With this class comes the promise of six hours of free on the road instruction.
Driving comes naturally and I'm excited
for the long-awaited responsibility.
Mostly I look forward
to all the memories I'll make
driving everyone home one day
-one day we'll have a road trip
it's odd how I see you everywhere.
a sort of phantom of you
present in everything I do, see or experience.
like how your laugh would fit so perfectly
in my friends chorus of joy.
how your eyes would smugly glimpse over at me when you say the question
the teacher had been for someone to ask.
how this sunset might prompt you to say something
horrendously cheesy, but would make
my heart melt nonetheless.
how your eyes are truly incomparable
to anyone else's.
how you might cheer for me
if you were at my soccer game.
It's odd how I see you everywhere.
a beautiful, blissful feeling
(one that admittedly, still brings a dull ache)
that continues to make me look forward
to the day you'll be here
