my skin is splotched with graphite
the dull in these eyes is starting to wear thin
these hands still tremble, but have yet to fail
this body, though worn and tired,
has made it through every trial
-and with grace, I will endure
how at peace can you be
when the deafening silence
of an absent father
surrounds you when he's gone.
i wonder if I just
enfolded myself deeper into these sheets
i might be able to escape from it all
or better yet
escape back to you
-even if only for a moment
and i still search for you
in the hallways
at the park
in the bleachers
everywhere
i should know better
-but my heart still belongs to you
to be honest
at times my eyes wander
lost in a hazy sketch of what I wish
much too often
to be considered sane.
it leaves soft outlines of longing
in my living wake
like a constant open hand
ready to be held by someone
who I know is not near
some call it a curse
others a hope
-I call it heartache
