Vierne and Akagi were in the past through Lict's holy book of heavenly secrets. Vierne seemed to love the Lict that didn't exist anymore. She was busy staring at him when a lean man with dark black hair came towards Lict and said something to him. Akagi and Vierne hid behind the bamboo trees and looked at them.
"It was as good as always, Xian." Akagi translated. They began talking and Vierne just listened, without understanding a thing they were saying. They left after a while. She asked Akagi what they were talking about.
"Just about going to the human world to perform an exorcism." He told her. "Human world?" "Seems like we are in the purgatory." He looked around. Vierne looked at the ground,
"You know what, Lord Akagi—I feel like...I was an option because it obviously wouldn't have been me if Wujin hadn't been possessed. It's because he had no one, he found me." "You're overthinking again." "I shouldn't have come here." "Vierne, it was his destiny to serve you. He served Wujin for some time but he will serve you for his lifetime—Quit getting jealous." He hit the nail.
"I'm not jealous—Ha! I can buy acres of land just to keep my wealth—That's how rich I am!" She shouted. "Nobody asked," She was embarrassed. "Hey, who are you!" Someone saw them and shouted. They both ran in opposite directions. They all ran after Vierne since Akagi was too fast.
"Vierne!" Akagi shouted but she didn't turn back. She ran down the stairs of the gatekeeper castle which seemed never-ending. After a while, they stopped following her. As she walked, she looked at fairies flying overhead and various kinds of mythical creatures. It seemed like a flea market. She tripped and fell into a tray of snakes.
She shrieked and got up. Two snakes bit her on her leg. It was the first time she was out without Lict and she realised how clumsy she was. She was a walking disaster! She walked into the mud and ran into a shop, crushing all the chillies laying on the floor to dry and covering them with mud.
They followed her with knives in their hands, "I don't think people like my letnik." Naive Vierne believed that it was her clothes that had got her into trouble while other creatures believed she was possessed by some naughty demon. She ran into a forest and they followed her but suddenly they stopped and looked ahead.
Lict stood before her.
"Lord Xian, this woman is possessed!" They shouted in Chinese. He looked at her. Her clothes and feet were covered in mud, her hair was unruly and her face was dirty. "She seems possessed. I'll ask Wujin to perform an exorcism." He grabbed her arm and pulled her away towards the castle. Vierne pulled away from him but he was strong. She dug the heels of her boots into the ground as he pulled her.
He turned back and looked at her. She smirked, "Now what?" He picked her up on her shoulders, "Leave me!" She pulled his kimono in anger, "It's an order, Lict!" But nothing happened because, in that world, Lict wasn't her star spirit.
"Fuck you!" Vierne shouted and then looked at his shoulder. It didn't have that vitiligo mark. His skin was clear from there and his contract mark was there on his backbone. She touched it gently, "You are happy because you're healthy, aren't you?" She pressed her lips on his neck and he shivered. He threw her on the ground and took out his sword, "Nevermind, I'll just cut you down!"
Akagi flipped the pages of the book and everything turned dark. He jumped down from the tree which faded into the darkness. "What did you do?" She asked. "Skip the boring part. Look at what you're here for." He flipped the pages further, as a variety of scenes passed through them.
"Wujin!" They heard a shriek and he stopped. They stood inside the darkness and looked at the light, where Wujin lay on the ground, covered in blood and Xian stood beside him. He threw the sword aside and touched Wujin's wound. "Lict—"
Akagi covered Vierne's mouth. Suddenly, a ghoul rose from Wujin's body and went inside Xian through his mouth. He coughed loudly. Vierne and Akagi's eyes widened as they looked at him. A maid walked inside the room, dropped the cups and ran out of the room, shrieking, "Xian killed Lord gatekeeper!" Xian ran outside while coughing. Vierne and Akagi ran after him. He was coughing blood while running on the rocks barefoot. It was raining blood.
Vierne looked back at men with swords who followed him. Akagi looked at Melissa standing afar. "Lust! Help me!" Lict shouted as tears ran down his eyes, "I did as you told me now help me." But she ran away. Vierne turned and looked at him. He was growing slow. He tripped on a stone and fell down. His vitiligo was growing in size.
"Lict!" Vierne shouted but all those men walked through her and dug their swords on his back. Blood flowed down the drains. Vierne pushed them away and looked at him. "...What a bastard you are." A black patch appeared on his back and the swords melted away. His contract mark was destroyed by the patch and soon disappeared.
All the men moved back and stared at him but Vierne ran towards him and hugged him tightly, "Don't worry, Lict—I'm here." His eyes turned towards her. She felt his curse crawl on her skin and burn her. Akagi pulled her away from him, "Vierne, stop interfering with the past!" The curse transferred to him too. "Lict!" Vierne shouted. "Let him go!"
She grabbed him tightly. Slowly, few protruding branches came out of that black patch on his back and grew into demon wings. "He's a demon!" "Vierne, we have to get out of here! Leave him—" "I can't!"
"Why are you fixing mistakes someone else made?!" Her grip grew weak. He pulled her back and closed the book. They both landed back inside the hotel room. "We are back!" Melissa opened the door. Her face lost colour as soon as she looked at them. The blight had spread all over Vierne's face and Akagi's legs.
"Milord!" "Melissa, stay away or it'll spread to you too!" "What's going on?" Lict stood at the door. Vierne and Akagi's body began purifying the blight on them. They felt their skin burning as if the blight was an acid their body was trying to neutralise it.
"Get some ritual water!" Akagi shouted, "Get it now!" Lict ran inside the bathroom and poured some water into the bucket. He stood before it and prayed. The water glowed golden for a second. He picked it up and turned back to Maks.
"How do I give it?" Lict asked. "I'll do it," Aleksei took the bucket from him and ran towards Vierne and Akagi. He threw the water at Vierne and she felt relief. Lict got another bucket and Aleksei threw that water on Akagi. Their body purified the blight after a while.
"I don't understand—How did you catch a blight?" Melissa stood before them while Lict and Maks began cleaning the floor. Akagi looked at Lict's book. Lict looked at them, "Milady, you read the book?" Vierne nodded, "Why would you take so much pain for me?" Everyone looked at them,
"I never realised," Vierne said, "That love is such a beautiful pain."
