Feeling like one of those cute female characters who raises her leg while being kissed by Prince Charming, I was overflowing with happiness and was absolutely swept off my feet as Amir continued kissing me. We quickly signed the license for the State of Louisiana and took several photographs with it in our hands. It was a piece of paper that I held tightly and didn't want to let go of. A certificate of marriage between two people who can live anywhere, legally, and the Nikah papers were just as important.

Sarah and I were now accepted in the Muslim community as one of their own, and our Nikah meant everything.

I couldn't stop smiling, nor could I stop crying. My makeup was probably washed away from my eyelids by now. Since we made our speeches and exchanged our vows, I'd been in a constant state of dizziness. This didn't feel real. Amir probably thought I was sick.

On the way in through the backdoor, Cami stopped us. She told us to stand still for one second while she snapped a picture of us gazing at each other. "Just one more," she said, smiling. "You two are so precious. Such a beautiful couple. I can't help but take a million pictures of both of you. You both deserve all the happiness in the world."

She flashed a photo of us and Amir peered over my shoulder to look at it while he kept his arms around my waist. The photo was of our kiss—our first kiss being united for eternity. Our first kiss as a married couple. "Good grief," I said, feeling my skin burn. "We were definitely eating each other's faces off."

He wiggled his eyebrows and chuckled.

Then he moved closer to my ear. "What can I say? You taste devine."

Oh Lord, he was making me squirm while standing here with Cami. Not good. But he loved expressing anything from his mind. It didn't matter where we were or who we were talking to.

Cami just smiled at us and then stepped aside so we could walk through. "You two are so passionate with each other. That is the kind of love that last a lifetime, and you guys are lucky. So lucky."

"And blessed..." And in that moment, I knew how blessed we truly were, all things considered. I looked up at my husband while he gazed at the festivities going on in the kitchen and great room. I knew getting married the legal way will throw up a lot of red flags, but we'll face them together. We have a tough road ahead of us, and we'll figure something out. My eyes started tearing up again, and Amir swiped a few off my cheek with his thumb. "So blessed," I murmured as his gaze never left mine.

My husband—oh, God, I can actually call him that from now on—rewarded me with a soft kiss, then brought his arm around my body, lifting me clear off the floor with another scorching hot kiss. I would have been surprised any other time, but this time was different. This time was about his soul claiming mine, and this time meant the world. We truly loved each other, and nothing would ever change that. When we came back up for air, I looked around and no one else other than Cami was paying any attention.

For several minutes, we hung out inside the house and visited with our friends and family. Amir and I couldn't let go of each other, or stop making googly eyes. Thirty minutes went by as we did the normal "cutting of the cake" routine, which was beautifully made by the girls, and very delicious. The cake was three-tiers high and had buttercream icing on the top with the words "Just Nikah-fied" on top. It was beautiful.
