Chapter Forty-Two

Do you know the feeling of having to eat delicious jelly but failed to savor it because of stress?

That is what I am feeling right now. Troublesome strangers are inside my pack and noisy elders are talking non-stop. My Lilly even chose them over me.

"I never thought that time would come when the ultimate disaster that plagues our kind will happen again."

Inside my study, four wolves wearing black capes with hoods that cover their entire faces are standing and facing each other while discussing the subject of the gathering. These four wolves are exactly the most revered wolf-council. If someone unfamiliar with them sees them for the first time, they will not be able to distinguish one from the other.

"It's good that we are prepared. Alpha Lucas has the ability to annihilate thousands of these "were-likes" in a battle."

"Second Elder is correct. That is true that Alpha Lucas has the ability to do so, but that would be in an open and direct confrontation. What I am worried of are those that work behind the scene. These "were-likes" are indeed like a plague. Once infected, they will be hard to deal with."

"It's true that Alpha Lucas can confront them head on, but those who are afflicted used to be one of us. We need to find the dark sorcerer who is behind all this."

These four had been talking on their own since the start of the conversation, but, after that sentence, they all stopped talking and turned to face me. They did it so uniformly like they have practiced it for a thousand times.

These old folks have always been like this.

"Cut the enemy from the roots. Lilly won't like it if the wolves continue to be afflicted." I answer them.

"Alpha is right. We should hunt the dark sorcerer as early as possible."

"It is equally important to give protection to the wolves. But how can we do that? Only the few gifted ones can use the energy of the world. Even us old bones can't use it aside from the fourth elder."

"Haha I'm not yet an old third elder. But you are right that it is indeed burdensome to set a defense at such a scattered area."

"Gather everyone in one place? If we are gathered and we secure the area, it will be difficult for the enemies to attack us. Scout and locate where that evil sorcerer is. In any case, the humans are safe from being afflicted"

"It's true that humans can't be afflicted. But if we gather the wolves in one place, there is no guarantee that the enemy will not turn his eyes to the weak humans. One rampage from a "were-like" will kill an entire valley."

"Then, the only way is to hunt them. Let us gather together to protect the weaklings then hunt the "were-likes." The dark sorcerer can hide but the "were-likes" can be easily tracked by Tane's warriors." I point out. "Tane's pack specializes in tracking and hiding tracks."

Immediately, the voices again stop and everyone turns to look at me before slowly nodding.

"We will do as you say." The first elder answers for everyone.
