Chapter 60 No rest for you

Third pov

Marinette is hugged by her parents the same second they see her.

"Welcome back sweetheart." Her maman kisses the top of her head as they lead her to the car. Apparently Nadja had offered to drive them.

"I've missed you."

Her dad smiles in the way only he can. It makes her feel happy and safe, because her papa won't let anyone hurt her. "We've missed you too."

Nadja is smiling and telling her that Manon sent a gift for her.

The gift is wrapped in pink paper and has a black bow on it along with a get well soon card.

"She doesn't know what happened, just that you were in an accident." Nadja sounds apologetic.

Marinette takes the gift in one hand and gives Nadja a one armed hug. "Thank you."

She wouldn't have wanted Manon to know something like that.

The car ride home is filled with an easy air and Marinette gets loads of questions about what she did in Gotham. (She decides that a less danger filled version is the best thing to tell them.)

She doesn't notice it but the adults around her relax a little as she gets into talking about how a lot of people want to buy commissions from her.

They get into the bakery without much fanfare. Her parents had closed it for the day, deciding, despite her protests that they would spend all day with Marinette.

It was nice. It was normal.

She felt safe. Happy as she sat watching a movie with her parents after months of feeling like she's been standing on unstable ground for 60% of the time. (Basically every time she left Wayne manor.)

So when she sat down in her desk chair she felt at peace.

"You alright kitten?" Plagg had been sleeping in a little nest that Tikki made for him once before. Now he was looking at her in a way that Marinette felt was good. Like he was trying to see her soul and was happy with what he saw.

"Yeah, i think i am."

Just then an akuma alarm went off.

Honey Bee was the first to see the akuma, although she's not entierly sure what it's supposed to be.

The closest she can get to guessing is a muted disco ball in human form.

She can't make out if it's a child or an adult. Chat has the best eyes to see in the dark, but for now he's playing as a temporary Ladybug.

"Go anything?" Ryuko lands beside her.

"Not much, the akuma went up to a man and the man froze before he started screaming and ran for it." Honey Bee answered.

"Then we need to see what he's doing a little bit closer." Viperion landed on the same roof as them, Mister Bug just behind him. They'd left Nino on stand by.

"Maybe the Lucky Charm would be happy to help."

A new person set their feet on the roof, black braided hair framing green eyes and the signature staff making Honey Bee smile.

"So what's the plan then?" Mister Bug asks. He feels more than secure enough to let their leader take charge again even if she wasn't wearing her own miracoulus.

Lady Noir kept an eye on the akuma that was slowly moving through the city. "I've been following it since it passed the bakery, i got my hands on a victim and asked what i could."

"And?"

"Apparently if you look at it you see the person that scares you the most." She finished.

"Then we're absolutely not letting you or bug boy over there confront this one." Honey Bee gets agreeing nods from Ryuko and Viperion.

Mister Bug looks like he doesn't mind that assessment.

"I figured you'd say that, but there's no need to worry. I've got a plan, just need some time to put it into work."

Viperion puts a hand on her shoulder. "We'll follow you."

There's an understanding that passes through them.

"Well, first I'm getting us some back up. Silver and Carapace. Can you guys keep an eye on this?" She asks.

She gets four nods and feels pride for her team.

"I'll see you soon."

Time skip

Fu is awake and gives her the fox miracoulus when she asks for it.

"Choose well."

Marinette nods. "I will. I'm actually planning on bringing Carapace back."

Fu smiles and nods as he hands over Wayzz and the turtle miracoulus. "I wish you well, Ladybug."

She smiles and thanks him, but when she's halfway through the door he calls out.

"Keep them on you for now."

She's confused but nods. "Alright."

Time skip

Lady Noir lands outside Nino's window and knocks on it.

The teen inside is wide eyed and hurries to let her in.

"M- Lady b, what're you doing here? Do you need the horse miracoulus?"

She shakes her head. "No, not now. I'm actually here because I've had some time to think a lot of things over, and... Nino Lahiffe, this is the Miraculous of the turtle, it grants the power of protection. You will use it for the greater good. Once the mission is done you'll return the Miraculous to me. Can i trust you?"

Nino's eyes are wide and for a second he looks like he's going to protest.

Then there's a crash coming from his phone, apparently it had been on the akuma video.

"I accept."

Time skip

Carapace met Silver for the first time when they regrouped with the others.

Now that he thought about it, he hadn't properly met Ryuko, Viperion or Honey Bee either.

Lady Noir laid the plan out.

Viperion and Mister Bug stay back, no close engaging and try to get civilians out of the way.

Ryuko volunteered to get in close contact with the akuma. So she's supposed to draw it's attention while Honey Bee gets close to try and neutralize the akuma.

Silver is backup while Carapace and Lady Noir goes ahead to evacuate the blocks of any potential victim.

"I don't like this. It's too quiet."

Carapace can only agree. "There's been few akumas once Hawkmoth seemed to realize that there wasn't any cat heroes around. Maybe he's testing the waters."

Lady Noir nodded absentmindedly. "Maybe."

They looked around the area without seeing anyone.

"I can't hear anything-"

The akuma landed in front of them, ir well, more like slaming it's feet into the ground hard enough for it to shake.

Carapace was quick to use his shield to block the hand coming for him.

Lady Noir wasn't so lucky.

It's shorter than planned but I'm pretty happy with it.

Who do you think scares Marinette most? Who do you think scares Nino most?

Oh, i watched the episode in Young Justice when the Joker showed up and man, he was a let down in so many ways
