The next day I was exhausted

In Transfiguration class I couldn't stop rubbing my eyes

Then Professor McGonagall told us exams would start on the first of June

One week from now we'd be going through exams

I hate school

"Exams?" Seamus Finnigan howled suddenly "we're still having exams?"

There was a thump as Neville Longbottom fumbled and dropped his wand, causing a table leg to disappear

Professor Mcgonagall waved her wand and restored the table

"The whole point of keeping the school open at this time is for you to receive your education" she said with a frown

"The exams will therefore take place as usual, and I trust you are all studying hard"

By gods, studying hard? That was the last thing that had been on my mind.

"Professor Dumbledore's instructions were to keep the school running as normally as possible" she said "and that, I need hardly point out, means finding out how much you learned this year"

I looked at the slippers in front of me and sighed

From the front of the class Ron's dumb wand started whistling

Three days before the exams Professor Mcgonagall made another announcement at breakfast

"I have good news" she said and everyone erupted rather than falling silent like any other time

"Dumbledore is coming back!" several people shouted

"You've caught the heir of Slytherin!" Padma Patil and her twin Parvati squealed

"Quidditch matches are back on!" cried Oliver Wood

Once everyone's shouting had subsided, Professor Mcgonagall continued

"Professor Sprout has informed me that the mandrakes are ready for cutting at last. Tonight, we will be able to revive those people who have been petrified. I need hardly remind you all that one may well be able to tell us who, or what, attacked them. I am hopeful that this dreadful year will end with our catching the culprit"

The cheers were deafening

I turned around with a wide smile to talk Malfoy, only for my face to fall as I noticed he wasn't joining in

Actually, a large chunk of the Slytherin table weren't cheering

It was sickening

Turning back around I watched as the applause died down and people started talking excitedly with one another

Then a boy turned to me "I don't mean to bother you, but have you seen a lizard?"

I shook my head and the boy kept looking

Soon a lot of people were glancing around to look for the lizard, and after a while I spotted it

It was all the way by the Gryffindor table, and someone's owl was looking at it a bit hungrily

I quickly dashed over and swooped the lizard up, but not before I leaped out of the way of a small redhead

I looked over to where the Weasley girl had ran from and saw her brother Percy talking to Harry and Ron

"Percy!" Ron said angrily "she was about to tell us something important!"

Halfway through a gulp of tea, Percy choked
