As Hawks watched his sister's breath slowly escape from her lips, he couldn't help but smile to himself from the doorway. The man had just checked in to see if she was doing alright but just seeing her alive was something Hawks could hardly believe.

Everything still felt like some kind of fever dream, that he would wake up in the morning and find that he had imagined everything. He couldn't even really sleep with the fear that when he opened his eyes the world would continue to be cruel, that it would take her away again.

Closing the door behind him, Hawks then walked towards the window before lifting his wings up and placing his signature yellow glasses across his eyes. Sweet dreams Hikari. I'll be back before you even know I'm gone..

Then the hero took off into the sky before finding himself in front of the public hero safety commission a moment later, his eyes traveling up the tall building silently. Man did he wish he could have stayed in that apparent all day but sadly that's not what he was allowed.

No, whether he liked it or not there was still work that needed to be done.

Sighing to himself, Hawks immediately slapped on his happy go lucky persona before stepping into the building, giving finger guns to whoever was passing by. God, this was exhausting.

True be told, he hated the act. He hated forcing himself into a character the commission had built but a long time ago. But they told him that the world would despise who he used to be, that the stupid little child he once was wasn't enough. So he changed.

A hero was supposed to be strong, a hero was never supposed to break. They were indestructible. That's what the world wanted to see, that's what he was conditioned to be for years after all.

So he believed it with every fiber of his being. In every action, every conversation he knew that Hawks had to be in every single decision he made. Because otherwise, he was useless. Keigo was useless.

And that was partly why he was afraid when Hikari was curious about him last night.

Perhaps it was because somewhere inside, the man knew that she'd be disappointed by his actions, by his sins and mistakes that were always slapped in front of his face.

He loved his sister but it was better to keep her at a distance, for her to only see the very best parts of her brother, the ones she had admired for so many years.

The last thing he feared was for her to get corrupted as he was, with a lost look in her eyes that could never return. No, his sister had to be safe in that little bubble that he protected her in, she had to be okay.

And perhaps it would have been better if she lived somewhere else but Hawks also knew he was too stubborn to ever let her go again. He would protect her, he had to after failing to save her so many times.

As he approached the president's office, Hawks heard a conversation on the other side, opening the door slightly as the president and a male agent turned in his direction. "Oops, sorry I didn't know you all were talking. I'll just wait outside and..."

Although the woman only sighed before sliding a file over to the agent with a huff. "It's alright Hawks, stay. We were just finishing up here. Shadow, finish your report.."

At the order, Hawks felt his feathers twitch before remaining still as a good dog would do, now hearing the other end of the conversation with perked ears.

"Right, so as I was saying. We think a high profile villain has entered our area. They have a large following in the underground and have assisted in various cases across the board. I believe they go by a client bases with no real target in mind..."
