"Damien?" I called out once I entered the garden. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle this, but I had to tie up all of my loose ends before I left in a few days. "Anybody home?"

"You haven't left yet?" Damien said from right behind me.

I jumped. "Jesus Christ, Damien!" I took a deep breath. "No. I'm leaving on Friday."

"Ah," he nodded awkwardly. It was a few more seconds before he spoke again. "I'm sorry about earlier. It was way out of line and - "

"Stop right there, Damien," I sighed. "You didn't do anything wrong."

"Sure I did," he retaliated.

"Um, no, I disagree."

"I disagree with your disagreement."

"You didn't."

"I did."

"You didn't."

"I did," Damien smiled. "Jesus, Jess, calm down."

"Do not tell me to calm down, I will throw a brick at your face," I needed a moment. I stormed over to that stupid gazebo and the stupid bench and that stupid beautiful garden full of white roses that needed to be painted red.

"Jess," Damien sat next to me. I tried to ignore him, but that was hard when his thigh was pressed against mine. No, I couldn't like Damien. I had just broken up with Logan, for God's sake. "What I said...bottom line, I'm not taking it back. I meant what I said."

"And you know that I literally just broke up with Logan," I face planted into my hands.

"I know," Damien stood up. "Meet me here tomorrow. I have an idea."

Before I could protest and say no, he was gone. Strange, I could feel the absence of his leg touching mine. I hugged and shook my head, standing up. This was ridiculous. I couldn't just like Damien that fast. But then, a terrifying thought popped into my head.

What if I had liked Damien this whole time, and I just hadn't realized it?

...

"I TOLD YOU, JESS!" Alissa screamed through the phone. "I mean, sorry about Jogan, but I SHIP JAMIEN, HOLY FUCK!"

I heard Alissa's mom yell in the background. "MOM, DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN, MY SHIP HAS SAILED!"

"Liss, your ship hasn't sailed," I played with the string on my sweatpants. "If anything people are about to shut the ship down."

"No, Jess, listen to mamma Lissa," Alissa cooed. "Ask yourself this: would things work out with Logan?"

"Well, no, that's why we broke up," I replied.

"Would things work out with Damien?"

"...I don't know," I shook my head. "Liss, why are you asking me this?"

"Because, young grasshopper," Liss sounded more serious now. "I want you to be happy."

"What tells you that Damien would make me happy?"

"I just have a feeling," Lissa paused for a moment to listen to her mother. "Gotta go, Jessie. But...think about it, kay?"

With that, I was again in a quiet room by myself.
