Something was wrong with my car.

It was going well until it started spluttering and jerking before coming to a complete stop right in the middle of the fucking street.

Tears of frustration burned my eyes as I twisted the keys in the ignition over and over again. At first, it sounded like it was going to start again, but it didn't and now nothing was happening.

Another car blew its horn. I knew it was coming from behind me. I was causing a damn traffic jam and there was nothing I could do about it. Sticking my hand out of the window, I gestured for the car to drive past.

It did with the driver screaming profanities at me and flipping me off.

A tear slipped down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away as I tried the car once again. Nothing happened. The car was dead. Another car sped past me with its horn blasting.

I jumped when a hand suddenly slammed down on the roof of my car. Panic hit, leaving me wide-eyed and frozen.

"Hey," a man greeted as he leaned down. "Let me just do this."

He leaned into the car and pressed something on my dashboard. When he pulled back, I sucked in a sharp breath and wished that my purse wasn't so far away. Our eyes locked—pale grey eyes to chocolate brown—for a few seconds before he straightened and turned to wave to someone.

Were they planning on robbing me? How many men were they? Would anybody help me?

"Don't look at me like that," the man muttered when he leaned down again. "I'm here to help not do any harm. My brother is in the truck two cars behind you, he's going to stop traffic so we can get you onto the shoulder of the road."

The moment he looked away, I leaned forward and snatched my handbag from the floor on the passenger side. I pushed it in between the two seats and carefully opened the zip. Before I could reach inside, the man leaned down again.

His eyes darted from my face to my hand resting on my handbag. Was he going to try to grab it? He pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes at me.

"If you pepper spray me, brown eyes, I'm going to make sure you regret it," he said.

"I have a name!" I hissed.

"Which you haven't told me yet."

"I don't tell my name to strangers."

His lips parted but a loud shout had his mouth slamming shut. Anger darkened his eyes as he slowly straightened and turned to shout back at whoever had shouted at me.

My fear gave way to amusement. He looked like a well-raised man but he certainly had the mouth of a sailor.

A big old Ford truck suddenly drove past us but instead of driving away, it pulled across the two lanes in front of me, creating a gap in the traffic towards the side of the road. That made the other drivers even angrier.

"Is the car in drive?" the stranger questioned as he leaned down again.

I nodded.

Without a word, he gripped the steering wheel and turned it. A gasp fell from my lips when he easily started pushing the car. A few minutes later it was parked at the side of the car with the big truck pulling in behind it.

The man opened my door and reached inside to pull a leaver below the steering wheel. There was a soft click that made the man straighten. He frowned as he walked to the front of the car and lifted the hood. A cloud of smoke blinded me and made him cough.

I hesitated before I slid from the car and glanced around. The traffic was starting to flow smoothly now that I was out of the way. I pulled a face as I slammed the door shut and walked to the front of the car where the man stood.
