Dark had just gotten back from taking the kids to school, though he seemed in a bit of a bad mood. Jack was doing the laundry when he walked in and gave him a smile as he set down the laundry basket. "What's wrong Dark?"
"Elizabeth's teacher tried to flirt with me again, she knows that I am with you but I'm starting to get the feeling that the crazy woman doesn't care.."
Jack giggled and wrapped his arms around Dark, "Well she better start caring, flirting with you is my job."

Dark smiled and ran his fingers through Jack's hair, his bad mood seemed to instantly go away. "Here why don't you go upstairs and get comfy in bed and relax. I'll finish putting away the laundry."
"Awe Dark you don't have to do that," Jack attempted to say but Dark had already grabbed the basket of laundry.

He smiled and went up stairs with Dark following him. In their room Jack changed into a comfy robe before flopping down on the bed while Dark started to put away the clothes. After a couple of minutes the doorbell went off downstairs and Dark gave a confused look, pausing as he tried to think if they were expecting someone.
With Dark's line of work, a random doorbell doesn't always mean an Amazon package was delivered.

When the doorbell sounded again, then again a third time Dark set down the pair of pants he had been folding. "Wait here," he told Jack before leaving the room and heading downstairs.
Jack was a little concerned, people didn't normally ring the bell so many times. He was a bit worried that maybe his father or mother was at the door due to an emergency or something similar.

Thought that idea went out the window when he heard the front door slam open and a bunch of yelling.

Jack was really worried now, and confused. He slowly got out of the bed then started to sneak down the hall then down the stairs.
Downstairs the living room was a chaotic mess, the coffee table was flipped over, the couch was on its side. Dark was fighting against two really tough looking men at the same time.
Jack froze up, completely shocked, unsure of what to do or say but silently glad Damien Jr. and Elizabeth wasn't there.

Dark saw Jack out the corner of his eye and dove behind the couch just as the two men pulled out guns and started firing. Jack hid behind the corner of the stairs, clearly neither of the men had seen him because they didn't direct their fire at him.
Luckily, where Dark was now taking cover made him face where Jack was hiding. Dark made the sign of a gun with his fingers and even though it was a silent gesture Jack knew exactly what he meant.

Jack rushed upstairs and grabbed one of Dark's guns, the handgun he kept in his bedside table for emergencies. Then he rushed back downstairs and Dark dodged the bullets and hide in the stairway next to him.
"Go lock yourself in the bathroom and don't come out until I come for you," Dark ordered before taking the gun and going back into the fight.

Jack whimpered but did as he was told, he knew that if he had stayed he'd risk Dark getting hurt. Dark would be too worried about trying to keep Jack safe.
He went to the nearest bathroom and quietly closed and locked the door, the intruders still having no idea that he was there.
Jack paced around the bathroom, listening as the gunfire continued, his hands starting to shake when the house went completely silent.

After a few minutes of total silence Jack heard slow footsteps coming up the stairs. He grew more afraid for a moment before he heard Dark's voice.
"Jack... baby..."
Thud.

Jack gasped and unlocked then opened the door.
Dark was on the ground, breathing heavily and clearly in a lot of pain, a bullet wound in his left leg and chest.
Jack fell to his knees next to Dark, trying to think of what to do as he watched Dark's clothes dampen with blood.

"Y-You need to go... pick up the kids from school... t-take them to the base, it's... it's not safe here."
"Dark I-I'm not l-leaving you!" Jack stated as he pulled the rope from his robe that was used to tie the robe close and tied it tightly around Dark's leg, it was clear the bullet had went out the other side so it wouldn't cause much more damage but the pressure would help the bleeding some.
"You n-need to get to a-a hospital!"
Dark let out a chuckle, a raspy chuckle. "I can't go t-to a hospital sweetheart," he whispered.
