sure, your father said she'd be there—but to be honest you barely remember half of that conversation.
you nod, reaching to shake her hand before motioning to shoto, "this is my boyfriend, shoto; he doesn't really speak english so i'll have to translate"
you purposefully left out the part where you said 'but he can understand it (english) very well' because you didn't want your dad bothering him.
as you hoped, learning that your boyfriend didn't speak english discouraged your father enough to not try to speak to him. . .for now
