I stopped a couple of times on my trip to Tanjiro to destroy any remaining demons in the region. I killed at least 5 more demons in total and entirely cleared out the town, with the exception of the swamp demon Tanjiro had to deal with.
By the time I returned to Tanjiro's location, the demon had been defeated and the young boy was kneeling next to Nezuko, who was bleeding from a head wound.
I noticed Kazumi and the woman Tanjiro rescued earlier to my left and my way over to kneel beside him. Kazumi looks into my deep (e/c) eyes as he lifted his tired attention from the ground.
"Are you okay, Kazumi?" I inquired softly of the surprised man. No, he shook his head and throws his arms around my waist, weeping softly as he buried his head in my stomach.
"Oh-..uh.." I uttered under my breath, eyes wide as he clung to me. "..." I didnt know what to say, only moving to awkwardly pat his back, brows furrowed.
As he tightened his grip on me, he couldnt help but tremble softly "I've lost my fiance...H-how am I going to be okay?"
He was right.
It was a tough loss, especially for someone like him, who already seemed quite upset...and to know others thought you did it certainly wouldnt help.. poor guy..
I sighed before speaking. "No matter how many people you might lose, you have no choice but to keep on living...No matter how devastating the blows may be." I spoke softly to the grieving man. He clung closer to my form.
"W-w..what do you know about it?!" He shouts in agony.
I started to slowly stroke his hair. "...Everything..." I replied, a solemn expression on my face. Kazumi raises his head to gaze at me, at first in anger until he took in my expression. He apologises gently and releases my garments. Standing up, Tanjiro walks over to me and looks down at Kazumi as the man slowly rises to his feet, tears streaming down his face.
"We'll be on our way now." Tanjiro says before Taking out a small cloth and handing it to Kazumi. Kazumi looks taken back before accepting the piece of cloth. "I hope you'll find something of Miss Satoko's in there." The young boy finished before turning around and leaving.
Giving Kazumi one last glance, I follow Tanjiro down the path.
Our feet hit the pavement as we walked, the distant weeps of Kazumi could be heard behind us. "Good job on killing your first demon." I congratulated and patted the boy on the back.
The boy stares at me with a big smile before nodding. "Thanks!" He paused. " I didn't see you when I was fighting, where did you go?" He inquired with the tilt of his head.
"I sensed a few more demons in the area and decided to take care of them while you were busy. Sorry I couldn't watch the whole fight." I apologised. The boy smiled once more before giving a thumbs up.
