TWENTY-TWO DAYS LATER
WITHIN THE AVENGER COMPOUND, it was dark. While sitting on her bed in perfect health now, Y/N gazed at the moon as it shone brightly in her bedroom. Having told Natasha about Yelena the same day she discovered her disappearance, Natasha was also equally devastated counting it was their sister.
Additionally, they have not heard anything from Alexei or Melania. So their thought is that they would have each other now. In spite of the fact that many people had lost a loved one during this period, they were not going to take vengeance lightly.
There has been almost continuous communication between Y/n and Steve, apart from the time they both lost Bucky. She never removed the dog tag, She still believed he would be back like he said.
"Hey," Y/n heard, looking away from the news that was playing on her television while she kept her blinds closed but peeked out.
With his beard now shaved, Steve crouched against the doorway, his arms crossed at the chest. The young woman was lying in her bed with her arms wrapped around her legs.
Wearing a grey shirt, that bucky had back in Wakanda that she was able to get, from Okoye, who had lost T'Challa and half of their people.
She looked almost dead, "Hi" She simply said, sitting on top of her bed, looking over at Steve.
Further, he walked into the room before sitting at the end of her bed and watching television. There were many discussions regarding how long the snap would last, as well as giving advice to those who lost a relative during this time.
"Do you feel better?" Steve inquired, looking over at Y/n, who looked worse than when she was seen in the compound the last time.
It was as if someone slowly pressed gains of sand into her skin as she stood in an unfamiliar place frozen in time. She felt a grey, oppressing feeling surrounding her body as if she were covered by sand.
In view of the apparent nature of her feelings, Y/n could not lie about them. Since then, she has begun to wonder whether she and Bucky were just not meant to be together. Now losing each other twice. However, she was only calm when he was helping her in Wakanda.
While crossing her legs and sitting up from the pillow, she heaved a loud sigh. "Kind of," she replied. "I mean, I did lose everyone but Natasha...and you, I guess-" She said jokingly while messing with the blanket under her.
Steve nodded his head as he studied her more closely. "It's not going to be easy to move on....it's only been a month" he explained, looking at her. The woman nodded her head and looked into her bed, while her eyes shone and slowly began to redden.
"I only had myself for such a long time," Y/n explained, looking up from the bed and at Steve while her eyes glistened with tears. Slowly, one of them fell down her cheek. She wiped it with her finger and attempted to stop herself from crying.
"Then Barton, made me go on that one mission that gave me my family back, my new friends, and him...and they all made me better...I cannot forget them...and then I will forget myself....and we were never even dating-" She ended with a little laugh shaking her head.
As Steve gazed at Y/n, he couldn't help but feel pity for the woman. When he closed his eyes and nodded slowly, Y/n did not know what he was thinking. "I'm always here to talk," Steve explained.
In the blink of an eye, the ceiling lights, along with the lamp, began to sway. Y/n and Steve exchanged glances before leaving her room to see what was happening.
The two of them walked out of the compound to see Natasha and Bruce, along with Pepper Potts. (Someone who Y/n had met while basically living in the compound, Pepper was dating Tony).
