FIVE YEARS LATER
2023THE STREETS WERE DESERTED FOR THE FIRST TIME, New York looked abandoned. While the skies were a deep shade of blue, there was a dense fog in the air.
The sun has been obscured by clouds since last week, and it seems that it did not want to come out. A cluster of boats stood immobile around the statue of liberty, which was still standing in place, on the shores of the lakes.
A ghost town had been created at stadiums, parking lots, and grocery stores, with cars abandoned in the parking lots. Five years after the disaster, half of the population is still gone.
There was a fog enveloping an apartment complex inside of which there was a presence of people. In a matter of minutes, she was sitting comfortably on the couch. She was now thirty-two years old.
Throughout her past birthdays, she did not attempt to celebrate her birthday, as she did not believe there was a cake and wine celebration on each one. Naturally, she presented herself as older than she did in her late twenties; she appeared to be more mature and well-groomed than she did five years prior.
Despite her best efforts, she has not attempted to go on dates, attend therapy, or anything else. She's just been sitting around and trying to continue her life. Once again, she was in quarantine herself, living in a small apartment.
The only difference was that she would visit Natasha, who was still placed in confinement at the Avengers compound.
Despite the fact that half of the people were now gone, there was little crime to speak of. There wasn't really anything someone could do. The only excitement that had to happen was someone littering on the ground.
Y/n sat on the couch wearing a brown plain shirt, while it went down to her knees, with baggy sleeves and shorts.
On her neck, the dog tags...
she still believed...
It was not the worst apartment she lived in, but it was better than any other she had. The apartment appeared to have grey walls and black couches with white pillows.
The kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom were all located in separate rooms. Her expectations were exceeded by the apartment, but she did not complain.
Even today, Y/n still had flashes of Bucky in her mind when she thought about dancing in the moonlight. However, now they were no longer fighting, but it was not peace, everything was gloomy and dark since he had disappeared.
She no longer felt resentment toward anyone else now that he was gone. Despite attempting one date, she was unsuccessful and walked out.
This has been the darkest period of her life since he left, she was never really into drinking until now, drinking wine every night before bed so she can wake up to a clean plate.
The television played nothing but the new counting there was no one to film new shows.
The news was discussing what you can do to move forward by getting over your issues. "It doesn't feel like the snap will be ending any time soon, there is no crime to be reported yet" The woman on the television explained while Y/n took a bite from her cereal.
It was discovered that more people were missing than Y/N had anticipated. Valentina and Alma were nowhere to be found.
Y/n looked at the clock while it slowly ticked, before noticing that it was the middle of the day, Y/n stood up from the couch. It was necessary for her to go and wash her clothes and visit Natasha at the Avengers' compound.
