Henry's POV

"Henry?" I hear my name being called out, and I smile, thinking I'm waking up from a bad dream.

"Hope?" I call out.

"Hope?" I open my eyes, and instead of seeing my sister, I'm looking at my mother, who has confusion written all over her face. "What are you hoping for, darling?"

"Uh...what happened?" I ask her as I sit up.

"You fainted at the table, and your father grabbed you before you hit your head. Aunt Keelin checked you out and said nothing was wrong besides maybe low blood sugar. Did you not eat enough today?" She asks.

"Uh...possibly. Did a lot of running and stuff with dad and my uncles." I answer.

"You have to remember to eat Henry. I know your father and uncles don't have to worry about that, but you have to take care of yourself."

"Henry." My cousin Nik calls out, and he runs to me. "You k?" He asks.

"I'm good, Nik."

"Here." Mom picks up her nephew and places him on my bed. "Why don't you give your cousin a hug?"

"Yes!!!" Nik rushes at me and wraps his tiny arms around my neck. "I am so happy you're okay, Henry."

"Me too, buddy."

"Nik?" Aunt Freya calls out.

"Mama?" Mom helps Nik down, and he runs towards his mother's voice. I notice the longing look my mom gives Nik.

"Did you mean it?" I ask.

"Mean what?" Mom asks me.

"Did you want more kids?" I clarify.

"I would love to have more kids." Mom answers. "But whatever fate that brought us you is not striking twice." She holds her head low.

"Why not adopt?" I ask her.

"I couldn't subject a child to this life if they didn't have another choice." Mom answers.

"Any child would be lucky to have us as a family. You and dad are the best parents I could ever ask for."

"That is sweet darling, but...before your father, I never wanted to be a vampire. I wanted to live a normal human life. But falling in love with him changed all of that, but we both know that this family is a hard one to cope with, and should an innocent bystander be forced into this decision?"

"If you were to have another child and it was a girl, uh...what would you name her?"

"What's with the fascination with a sibling?" Mother asks.

"Just curious. I mean, did you have names picked out before settling on mine?"

"When we settled on your name, we weren't thinking of others."

"What if I was a girl? What would you have named me?" I ask, needing to know when this nightmare would end.

"Hope." Mother answers, and I practically stop breathing. "I would have named my daughter Hope." She looks at me, and I can tell she knows something is off. "Henry, what is wrong?"

"Just a lot of stress." I lie. I can't tell my family about Hope. There is no way to explain it.

"You can tell me anything; you know that."

"I know." Mother grabs my hand. "How did you get overtaking your first human life?"

"I didn't handle it well." Mother admits. "I was in a dark place after I took my first human life. And I wish I could lie and tell you it will get easier, but you will always remember that first life you took."
