Race nervously played with his fingers. Never in his life did he think he'd be doing the one thing he'd sworn not to do as a teenager but there he was.

Visiting his father in jail.

A security guard had checked him over when he had entered and gave him a 'visitor' sticker.

"What's your relationship?" he asked.

"I'm his- he's my father."

The guard nodded and jotted some stuff down before starting to explain the procedure of a visit to him.

Race followed along, only getting distracted by his thoughts twice.

"If at any time you want to leave early just notify a guard and we'll take him back. There's also psychologists we can call if you need it, given the nature of his arrest."

Race nodded.

"He'll be handcuffed and if he tries to touch you, he'll be taken back into the jail and you can go or, as I said, speak with one of our psychologists.

"Are you ready to go in?" the guard asked.

Race nodded in reply. "Yeah. I think so."

The guard opened the door to the visitors area, directing Race to the bench he was to sit at.

The far door opened and, flanked by a guard on either side, came his father. Race felt himself panic but pushed it down.

He had something to do and he intended to do it.

"Anthony. I'd say it's nice to see you but it isn't," Matthew sneered, looking straight at him.

"Are you talking to me?" Race asked. "Because I'm not Anthony. I'm Antonio."

"You've gotten awfully brave. I'd knock it out of you but they won't let me."

Race deadpanned. "I'm just here to talk to you civilly. I'm an adult now so if you would like to act like an adult for once in your life, that'd be nice."

Matthew rolled his eyes but shut up.

"I'm married," Race stated. "We got married two years ago and adopted our daughter six months later."

"Who would marry you?" his father asked, sneering. "They probably don't even love you."

"He does love me. I've known him since I was taken out of your care and he's been nothing but caring. He loves me and I love him."

"He? I always knew you were-"

"What? Go on. Say it."

Matthew huffed and sank into his seat.

"Her name is Clara," Race stated coldly. "We named her after Momma."

Matthew rolled his eyes. "That's pitiful. Why would you name a child after that who-"

"Don't say that about her," Race shouted. "She always loved you and then she died and you started to drink and you changed."
