(A/n: just wanted to say that I do not know Spanish, unlike the Diaz family but I will still include the Spanish. However, since Google Translate kinda sucks I'll put "said (or some variation of said) in Spanish")

Maya was glad to move to Los Angeles from Riverside. She liked the idea of starting over at a new school, with new friends. She liked the apartment a lot more than her old one. She got her own room, as did her twin brother Miguel. However, Miguel wasn't as ambitious as Maya was. He hated the apartment, the crappy water pressure, and the crappy neighbors.

"Just met another crappy neighbor," Miguel announced, closing the front door behind him.

"Maybe don't talk to people while they're taking out their trash, Miggy." Maya chuckled, drinking her Pepsi and scrolling through her phone.

"Are you two excited to start school soon?" The twin's Mom, Carmen, asked as Miguel sat next to Maya.

"No."

"Yeah." Maya glared at Miguel. "Why do you have to be so pessimistic all the time?" Miguel glared back at her.

"Why do you have to be so happy all the time?" Miguel retorted.

"I think the word you're looking for is optimistic, idiot." Miguel rolled his eyes.

"You guy's be nice to each other, I've got to go to work, will you guys get some Pepto-Bismol for your Ya-Ya later?" The two nodded, the gas station wasn't too far away from their home.

~

"C'mon, Miggy. I don't wanna talk to strangers." Miguel rolled his eyes as the two debated over who would ask where the Pepto-Bismol was.

"Fine, Maya." Maya smiled as they walked into the gas station, seeing a man who they knew, knew Spanish.

"Where's the Pepto-Bismol?" Miguel asked in Spanish.

"Over there." The cashier answered in Spanish and motioned to an aisle. Miguel grabbed it, and the two of them walked to the cash register.

"That's the asshole neighbor I was telling you about earlier," Miguel announced in Spanish, Maya looked at the guy. If Miguel hadn't told her that he was their neighbor, Maya would've thought he was homeless. "My grandma's not feeling well." Miguel blurted to the man, who was extremely impatient for his pizza.

"Didn't ask. C'mon, what's Spanish for 'just give me my damn slice?'" Maya felt her face curl in disgust at the guy. Why was he being such an asshole?

"Fucking idiot, he probably has a little dick." Maya snickered, the man looking over at the two.

"What did you just say?" The man asked the cashier when he didn't answer the man looked at the twins. "What did he say?" He asked them.

"You don't wanna know." Miguel tried his best to calm down his laughs.

"I know it's something bad, just tell me." The man continued.

"He said you have a tiny..." Maya quickly clamped a hand over her mouth in an attempt to suppress her laugh.

"He said I have a tiny wang? Tell him he has a tiny wang." The cashier's eyebrow quickly raised.

"I speak English, asshole." After the cashier said that, a large group of boys who looked to be Maya and Miguel's age came into the gas station. Meanwhile, the man paid for his pizza and left.

"Miggy, I gotta use the bathroom, I'll be back in a bit." Miguel nodded, although he didn't like the idea of Maya not being by his side. He didn't like the thought of leaving her by herself while he waited for her outside, either.

~

When Maya walked out of the bathroom, she didn't see Miguel inside. Or the teenage boys. No one but the cashier.

She suspected Miguel had gone outside to wait, Miguel didn't really like being around boys who seemed to be popular and those boys were just the type Miguel didn't like. What she didn't expect, however, was when she went outside was to see Miguel covered in a pink substance and being beaten up by those boys. Maya ran to get between them, quickly pushing one of the boys off of her brothers

"Leave him alone!" The boy smirked at her, the other boys crowding around the boy who she suspected was the 'ring leader'.

"Aw, 'Rhea's baby sister to the rescue." Maya glared at the boy.

"His name's not 'Rhea, asshole." Maya retorted, the boy's eyes narrowed.

"The hell did you say to me?" The boy stepped closer, Miguel stepped back, but Maya continued to stand in her place.

"I said you're an asshole!" Maya repeated.

"You're so much prettier when you just keep your mouth shut." The boy's hand went to Maya's face, but she quickly swatted it away.

"I can't say the same for you, you're ugly either way." Maya quickly fell back onto the ground as he punched her in the stomach.

"Hey man! Keep your hands off the girl!" Maya looked up, Miguel helping her up. It was the man from before.

"Who's this dude?" One of the boys asked.

"Just leave the dork and his sister alone." The man practically pleaded.

"What?"

"You see this guy? Eating his dinner at the mini-mart like a bum."

"Wait, I think I know this guy. He's the jerk-off that cleaned my dad's septic tank." The main boy laughed, the man glaring at him.

"Oh! That explains why he smells like shit." Another boy laughed.

"Trust me, you are pissing off the wrong guy on the wrong day, all right?" The man warned Miguel and Maya, watching from the sidewalk.

"Really?" The boy asked.

"Yeah, really." The man said through gritted teeth.

"Get the hell out of here, loser." The boy pushed the man, the man pausing for only a second before he spun and kicked the boy.

Maya and Miguel still watched from the sidewalk, Maya figured out that the pink liquid was the Pepto-Bismol that one of the boys had dumped on Miguel. The two watched the whole fight go down until the cops came. Miguel tried to intervene, telling the cops that it wasn't his fault, but Maya quickly pulled him with her to their house.

~

"Maya, Maya, Maya, Maya!" Miguel chanted as he knocked repeatedly on her door.

"Come in, Miggy!" Maya sighed, setting down her phone.

"You won't believe it! That guy said he would be my Sensei, that's a karate teacher by the way, so I can fight those guys if they mess with me again!" Maya sat up quickly, smiling.

"Really?!" Miguel nodded quickly, pausing for a moment.

"And I'll be able to protect you, ya know, better than I have been." Maya smiled.

"Thanks, Miggy."
