It was official, Maya couldn't walk anymore. She didn't want to believe it, but every time she tried to prove the doctors wrong it just proved them right. They said her legs worked, they were just too weak. Weak. That was one of the words that Maya never wanted to be described as.

One word that you could use to describe Maya now would be wobbly. Her legs were wobbly, her head was wobbly, and her whole body seemed to be involuntarily wobbly. She would just sit on her bed, her body wobbling as if she were cold.

There wasn't much she could do inside the hospital besides watch TV and talk to people. The nurses tried to make her stay more fun, giving her coloring pages and crafts to do when her family and friends weren't there.

Loads of people visited Maya, some people that Maya didn't expect to visit her. People like Daniel and Sam. Surprisingly, Sam wasn't a bitch, but Maya knew it was only because she was sick. Robby visited her a lot, Eli didn't like that too much, but Robby knew that Eli didn't have anything to worry about.

It was always Eli, it would never be Robby. Of course, Robby could always reminisce the memories of him and Maya but he knew that he and Maya were over. He could always be there for her, but not in the way he wanted to.

"I'm just not hungry," Maya muttered sighing into her hands.

"You still gotta eat, it doesn't matter if you're not hungry." Maya groaned, knowing that Eli was right, and hating it.

"It's just gonna come back up anyways," Maya argued, Eli, tilting his head to the side.

"It takes the normal person an hour or two to throw up after eating, that's enough time for your food to digest and give you the nutrients you need." Maya blinked, how could she forget that Eli was a science and biology nerd? "If don't want me to pull more facts out of my ass then you better start eating." Maya rolled her eyes playfully, taking a bite out of her food.

Maya hated that she was ruining his summer. Or that was what she thought she was doing. She was sure he'd much rather be at the beach, swimming and playing volleyball with Miguel and Demi. Hawk didn't think she was ruining his summer, after all, he got to be with Maya all day, the circumstances were just upsetting.

"Eli," Hawk looked up, focusing all of his attention on Maya, "when I die-"

"Your not gonna die." Hawk retorted quickly, hating the idea of Maya no longer being here.

"If I die, can promise me something?" Hawk nodded slowly. "Don't be too sad. I mean, I know you'll be sad but don't be for too long. Ya know, live your life and everything?" Hawk felt a knot form in your throat.

"I...I can't promise you that." Maya frowned. "If you're not here, I don't know how I'm gonna 'live my life' without you." Maya would miss Eli, she knew she would.

"Please." Hawk gulped, glancing at the blankets in front of him.

"You should get some sleep." Maya didn't protest, sleeping seemed to be the only thing she wanted to do recently. Hawk laid down beside her, Maya curled up against his side as he brushed his fingers through her hair. Silence filled the air, Hawk focused on the rising and falling of Maya's chest.

"Eli, can you talk?" Hawk chuckled a bit.

"About what?" He asked, feeling Maya shrug.

"Anything, I like your voice, it's comforting." Hawk smiled, racking his brain for a topic to talk about.

Eventually, he settled on talking about the past couple of weeks and what he'd been doing. Training, hanging out with Demetri and Miguel, looking at colleges, and working at a small café.

"I love you, Eli." Hawk continued to stroke her hair.

"I love you too, Maya." He responded, Maya felt her limbs falling heavy, her breathing becoming slow, and her eyelids falling heavy.

"Will you make sure everyone else knows I love them too? Miguel, Demi, Kenny, Robby, even Sam?" Hawk furrowed his eyebrows, wondering why she was talking the way she was.

"Well yeah, but, why can't you tell them?" Maya didn't answer, the only sound was the beeping from her heart monitor until there wasn't any sound at all. There was a loud buzzing, Hawk's eyes quickly went to the heartbeat monitor, seeing a flat line start to form.

Hawk felt his heart drop to his stomach as he jolted up, running to the desk outside of Maya's room. The nurse saw the frantic boy, who was frantically trying to say something. But he couldn't seem to spit it out.

"I need a doctor, Maya, Maya she...she was talking and then she didn't answer and then the heart monitor made a noise and I saw that she flat-lined!" Hawk felt tears swell in his eyes, the nurse scrambling up and grabbing multiple doctors and other nurses.

"Hawk, what-" Miguel started, seeing Hawk with tears in his eyes and chewing on his nails.

"Maya, she flat-lined! She told me to make sure everyone knew that she loved them and I asked why she couldn't do it, and she didn't answer, I-I thought she fell asleep but then I heard buzzing from the monitor." Miguel heard his mom wailing as they brought Maya out and rushed her to a different room.

He couldn't comprehend what the doctors were saying. They were using scientific, doctor words that he probably didn't even know how to spell. He didn't cry, he didn't flip out, he froze. Hawk cried, his mom cried, Ya-Ya cried, Johnny went to the bathroom so no one would see him cry, but Miguel...Miguel sat in a chair, staring at the ground.
