RENNA WAS SITTING IN HER room, laying down on her bed, when the doorbell rang. For the first time in forever, Atticus was using the front door instead of her window. "I'll get it!" She shouted as she ran out of her room, rushing down the stairs in leaps and bounds. However, when she stepped into the entryway beside her ex-father's pooling blood, the door was already open.
"Oh, goodness!" Her mother was shouting as she wrapped her arms around the boy, but he wasn't paying much attention to her. He was too busy looking at the man beside her.
"Victor?" His voice was loud, full of confusion and disbelief, as he stared at the man he'd least expected to see.
"Hey, kid. What're you doin' here?" The man asked as he stepped forward slightly, brows furrowing as he stared at the younger boy.
Ivelle pulled away, looking between the two with narrowed eyes. "Wait, you two know each other?"
"He gave me a ride back," Atticus muttered as he stared at the man. "Hold on, I'm confused. Why are youhere?" He asked accusingly.
"Well, uh-"
"Atticus!" Renna beamed as she walked forward, making herself known. His eyes flicked to hers instantly, the boy grinning back at her - lovestruck.
"Hey, Renna," he smiled softly as he walked forward, walking past the two parents as he wrapped his arm around the teen and pressed a kiss to her lips. She smiled into it before pulling away, looking into his deep, affectionate eyes before glancing back over to her mother and Victor. They stared at them with wide eyes and parted mouths.
"You're her boyfriend?" Victor exasperated, staring between the two with wide eyes. Atticus gulped, sharing a nervous look with Renna before looking back at the man with a sheepish smile.
"Uh, yeah."
"When was this?" Ivelle asked, staring at her daughter.
"Like, a night or two ago," she said with a lop-sided grin. Throwing them off course, the loud and ignorant sound of children running down the staircase cut them off. It was Parker and Cameron, laughing as they chased one another around the sizable house.
"Cameron! Parker!" Victor shouted as they came to the last step, the two slowing down in an instant as they looked over at the group by the door. "You remember Atticus, right?" They looked over at the tall boy, his curly hair framing his face as his arm hung around their half-sister's shoulder.
