Feet firmly back on the ground, Holly was still too caught up in her groping to bother introducing us properly.

I couldn't help but smile. It was about time she had some fun.

I was about to strike up a conversation with the bemused acquaintances of Big Red, when the Alphas began to climb the few steps to the podium.

Six Packs split our lands, each with varying acreage and power. In turn, six Alpha's ruled over us, confining the unruly nature of our kind within regulated 'kingdoms'.

The combined energy of the six coming together just about made the air vibrate. The crowd immediately silenced. Eyes and bodies turning without conscious thought towards our leaders.

And yet... They were not the most powerful beings here.

With bated breath I watched as the Elders stepped out of the shadows at the back of the podium.

I hadn't even noticed them there, silently watching us. I internally cringed, thinking of their first impression of Holly.

But there was no mistaking who they were. The runes tattooed down their necks and arms would be unmistakeable to even the young wolves.

We all knew that there must always be a male and a female Elder. A balance of power and knowledge.

Those who took the position were granted longer than usual lives by the Moon-goddess. Our current Elders had taken their places over three hundred years ago.

It had therefore been my assumption, that they would look extremely old. But I couldn't have been more wrong.

The female Elder stepped forward to address us. Her long black hair was braided elegantly, spilling over her shoulders in hundreds of tiny coils. Her face was smooth and wrinkle free, with chocolate brown eyes that held wisdom and warmth.

She wore tight fitting leggings and a brown vest, showing off her fantastically in-shape physique. I couldn't help but feel in awe of her, before even hearing her speak.

"Good day to you all." Her voice rang in the cavern, needing no microphone to be heard. "I am Edda and this is Alden. It is lovely to get to meet so many of our brethren, as difficult as these circumstances are."

At the mention of his name, Alden stepped silently to her side. He was equally as fresh faced as Edda, looking barely a year over forty.

His head was shaved completely bald, instead his scalp was covered with an intricate swirl of bright red runes in the shape of a lizard. The man wasn't particularly built, but he looked lithe and strong.

Edda spread her arms wide, a smile gracing her pretty face. "Please, settle in. We have runners assigned to show you to your accommodations. There is plenty of time to enjoy each other before we must face our enemies. We will dance tonight!"

The shifty anxiety radiating from the Alphas, in particular my father, told me that the idea of partying wasn't high up on their to do list. But they dare not argue. Elder word is law.
