Francesca and l were walking down the board walk eating a ice cream cone. It's not often l get a chance to spend with my ten year old granddaughter, everytime I see her smile. It reminds me of McKenzie
Francesca is the splitting image of her mother, l didn't notice it before until now. Your mother use to love horse back riding when she was around your age, so one summer l took her down to Texas where my good friend Emily lives at. She lived on a farm
She had all different types of animals
in the barn, when Emily showed us where she kept the horses at. Emily brought out Belle who was a white horse, your momma was super excited. Emily taught your mom how to ride Belle, that week she became an expert horse back Rider. McKenzie was brave getting onto the horse by herself, every summer we would go to Texas and spend three weeks there
By that time belle knew your mother was. She would ride Belle every morning after breakfast, she was a straight A student in school. She involved so many activities, McKenzie was on the swim team, the honor society for leaders of tomorrow
She joined the drill team. They had competitions against other schools
She won a bunch of ribbon and trophies, as she got older McKenzie when enter in high school, she joined the year book committee. Where she discovered photography, McKenzie loved taking pictures of everything around her. I brought her first camera
Margaret explains, was my mom pretty like me Francesca asked
You look just like her now l'm sure if she could see you now she probably would have felt she did something right. You have a good thing with Lena and Stef, they love you as if you were there own Margaret says to her granddaughter. When I first came to new Haven children's home l didn't speak for a while, mommy Lena was pretty patient with me but the other girls laughed at me. Lena came over one night cause one of the girls took my Dolly, Lena got back for me
Then she was telling me a story when she was a little girl growing up. How shy she use to be, was my mom and Lena sisters Francesca. They were step sisters, Lena was the oldest the stories I can tell you about Lena
But we can talk about that another time. Margaret States, Nana can we go into that store you and grandpa were talking about the other day. I wanna get a present for Grace and hope's birthday next week, Francesca asks
Sure we can the older woman answers.
