Stef's: POV
It's been a week since Lena came down with the flu but it seems as if nothing she's taking isn't working she is too weak to do anything. I'm beginning to worry
Lena barely has an appetite, she has shortness of breath. So l decided to call the doctor to see if she has any openings available so she checked Lena out, Dr. Sherri wants me to bring Lena first thing in the morning. I'm leaving the restaurant
I had the chef whipped up some food for the girls, cause l wasn't in mood to cook
Tonight. Tomorrow l have to go to the grocery shopping for the month, the girls are going over to their grandparents house to spend a week there until Lena gets better
I'm in my office finishing up some paperwork before l head home for the day
My mother in law is at the house. Suddenly my phone rings, l looked at the caller ID and sees it's my father in law Stewart calling me. I picked it up and answered it
Hey dad is everything okay l asked him
Sweetheart it's Lena Margaret went into the room to check up on Lena and she unresponsive when Margaret tried to wake her up so she called the ambulance and they came over right away Margaret rode with them to the hospital while l'm here with the girls. Stef you need head up there
It doesn't look so good, Stewart tells me,
Dad l'm leaving the restaurant right now
What hospital did they take Lena too dad
I ask him Seattle medical center he says to me, l lock up my paperwork in the bottom drawer. Grabbed my car keys and wallet
So l can head up to the hospital to see what's going on, ok l'll call you once l find out what's going with Lena dad. When l left for work this morning she had a fever, l gave her some medicine to bring it down
But it nothing seems to help. I called the doctor to schedule an appointment for Lena to get seen about cause she's been sick for a whole week, l don't know if she'll be well enough for the grandopening in two weeks for the new group home for new horizons. I might need to call and postpond the event until Lena feels better, l know she's going to be disappointed. Dad l'm leaving the restaurant kiss my babies for me please, Stef hangs up the phone and walks out her office locking the door behind her. She says a silent prayer that there's nothing seriously wrong with Lena
This was the last thing she needed, Stef walks past the kitchen Aaron the head chef stops Stef on her way out and hands her a large brown paper bag. The older man knew something was off with his boss
Cause she would always come into the kitchen with a new recipe she wanted to try. But Stef seems a little distracted
He knew she was a very private person who rarely discussed her personal life,
I hurried out to my car so l can head up to the hospital to see about my wife, times like these l wish my mother was here to offer some words of encouragement. I got in the vehicle, started up the engine and keyed in the address on my GPS system that was on the dash board. And l pulled out of the parking space, then drove off listening to the mapquest telling me which direction to go, hopefully there isn't no traffic on the highway, l keep my mind focus on the road
Flashes of Lena flew through my mind. The first time we met, our first date, the day l propsel to her. Our wedding day, the honeymoon we went on. The day we found out we were gonna have a baby after staring at two positive pregnancy test on the bathroom sink, we brought cried that day. The birth of hope and Grace always brings tears to my eyes, l can't lose my love
to this deadly flu. Lena means everything to me. It's then l realize there's tears rolling down my cheek, l pull up to the hospital
And park my car in the first available parking space that l see and exit the vehicle
I walked in the main entrance and went up to the patient registration. I stand in line and waited for the woman to get off the phone, she finishes her call yes can l help
You miss she says to me, yes can you tell me what room is Lena Adams foster is in l asked. She looks up the information in the computer, when was she brought in the woman said, my Ambulance brought her in a few hours ago Stef replied. She types something up, okay you'll have to take the elevators up to the sixth floor ICU unit
She tells me. I'm giving a visiting pass
I head down the hallway towards the elevators, then press the button and wait for the doors to open up. When the doors opened up, l took my hair down from the hair clip. And put it up in a bun
I stepped on and tapped the number six, as
the doors kept stopping on every floor and people were getting on l just stood there quietly waiting to get on the sixth floor
The door chime then l looked up and it said six floor, the automatic doors open up
I walked off the elevator and headed down the long hallways. The smell was begining to make me sick to my stomach, it's just something about hospitals that always made me feel nauseated, l saw my mother in law sitting outside the room. Mom what's happening to Lena l asked her, she stands up from her seat and walks over to me
What did the doctor say about Lena's condition Stef questioned. Lena has lung infection and a bad of the flu, the doctor has started her on some heavy duty antibiotics to treat the infection. They finally gave her something to bring her fever down, cause when we got here it was a 105. So the doctor said the next 24 hours is critical. We don't know the effects what the flu has done to her immune system
Once she wakes up Margaret is telling me
I take a seat beside her in the seat, Lena's strong l believe she'll pull through this
My mother in law says to me as she takes my hand in hers. And Margaret prays Lena survives this, mom you should go home
I can stay up here and I'll call you Stef States. Sweetie are you sure it's no trouble
I just don't know what to tells the girls about their mother,
