CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT,
episode eight, the eye of the phoenix.

ISABELLA VALOUR had heard that arthur was the one to bring gwen's brother, elyan back to camelot. gwen was the one to introduce them, and elyan took back anything bad he ever said about royalty. he immediately noticed the kindness in isabella's eyes, the way she shook his hand as if he was also a royal, she spoke to him with respect and never spoke down to him. it was like they were equal.

isabella watched from the side as merlin got arthur ready to embark on a solitary quest to prove himself worthy of the camelot throne. she couldn't help but think he looked like a real angel, as if he was carved by the gods. she smiled at the boy, who carefully intertwined their fingers and walked to the throne room.

isabella waited for him outside the throne room with merlin, in silence. of course, because the two of them were so mischievous, merlin had cracked open the doors to peak through and have a look. isabella caved and stuck her head through his arms to see as well.

"i wonder what he actually is thinking about." isabella whispered quietly, not being able to take her eyes off the prince.

"you." merlin responded, almost sarcastically.

isabella sent him a look and smacked his arm, creating a small thud. they both widened their eyes before shutting the doors and waiting outside professionally again. "i still don't understand why him crouching on his knees all night long is going to help think of a quest." merlin frowned.

isabella smiled softly at the younger boy. "he has to transcend his body so the quest is revealed to him...almost like in a dream like vision." she explained briefly.

"and we are just going to stand and watch him?" merlin asked in confusion again.

isabella chuckled lightly, "merlin. this is one of the most important days in a prince's life. i'm so glad no one cares about women, other than their looks, because i do not have to do these things. you wouldn't catch me slaying dragons or...or...searching for some trident in dangerous lands." she shook her head.

"now, of to bed. nothing is going to happen until the morning where arthur reveals is task." she said, making merlin sit down against the stairs.

soon enough, he fell asleep, snoring loudly as isabella rolled her eyes and glanced out of the window. before she knew it, the sun had risen. she stood up when she heard footsteps, and the king and knights walked in step to enter the throne room.

uther sent isabella a small nod, to which the princess walked over to arthur and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "arthur. it is time." she whispered softly.
