Blue roses: Said to stand for desire, love, mystery, and striving for the unattainable...
-
December came a couple days after Veronica killed that man.
She'd been quiet and seemed out of it. Her body was still in a state of shock, so was her mind.
You'd expect her to be distant, yet Veronica was anything but. She was by Stu's side 24/7, not leaving him. She wanted to be skin to skin with him whether that meant holding hands or curling up against him.
Billy tried to remain unbothered, but he couldn't. He saw the fear, the angst and the terrifying dullness in Veronica's eyes that day and he wouldn't ever forget it. He wanted it to be him that Veronica went to for comfort, but he almost knew any chances of that were forever gone.
-
Around rolled Veronica's birthday, December 13th. That was when Billy and Stu felt true terror.
The day started off normal, Veronica woke up, Stu made her breakfast and they watched TV together.
Then Stu gave her a gift, a small box with a silver ring inside. It was simple, with a black oval rhinestone on top. Veronica smiled and put it on her right ring-finger. "You like it?" Stu asked, looking at her shyly.
She nodded and hugged him.
Billy watched with a scowl from around the corner of the hallway and then stormed off to his room, slamming the door like an angry teenager.
Stu let out a chuckle, "Someones mad..."
Veronica grinned softly, giggling along with him.
Suddenly, she noticed a shadow in the corner of her eye that rushed past the window. She stood up quickly and walked over to the window, opening the curtains.
There was... nothing.
"Can I open the door?" She asked Stu, knowing how she wasn't allowed to without permission after her little, 'attempted adventure', as Stu now called it.
He got up and walked over to her with a confused nod.
Stu pulled out a key from his pocket, as one of the many new locks on the door required a key. He unlocked it, then went on to unlock the other locks that didn't require keys. He put the key back in his pocket.
Veronica opened the door and looked around outside, seeing nothing. She turned back to look at Stu, "I don't see any-"
She paused.
Stu's eyes were glued to the doorstep with a look of absolute horror, all color drained from his face.
Veronica's brows furrowed in confusion, but then she followed his line of sight.
On the doorstep, there were flowers.
Blue roses, to be exact. Of course they weren't real blue roses, given blue roses don't actually exist. But instead, intricately dyed white roses.
Veronica bent down and picked them up, inhaling the sweet floral scent. Attached to the bouquet was a note.
"Soon enough, my love..."
It read.
A creak came from the floorboards as Billy peered from around the corner, his heart dropped in an instant.
Veronica's furrow deepened, her lips parting in confusion. She turned and looked at Stu, as if searching for some sort of answer, only to be met with silence...
