“Hope grow's, in a dump.” Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute from the TV series “The Office”

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16

Enigmatic: “difficult to interpret or understand; mysterious” New Oxford American Dictionary

It's not often you get inspiration from a TV sitcom; but while I laughed at a funny scene, I couldn't help but be inspired as Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute sat pitifully in a pile of garbage at a dump and imagined the beauty of a single flower growing in a vast land fill. Any one of us has the opportunity to be that flower; and there is no better example than Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” There is nothing much uglier than the Jim Crowe south, but despite the difficulties of segregation, King became that flower. After his death he was eulogized with one of his own previous speeches. In it he said... “If any of you are around when I have to meet my day, I don’t want a long funeral. And if you get somebody to deliver the eulogy, tell them not to talk too long…. Tell them not to mention that I have a Nobel Peace Prize, that isn’t important. Tell them not to mention that I have three or four hundred other awards, that’s not important... I’d like somebody to mention that day, that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to give his life serving others. I’d like for somebody to say that day, that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to love somebody... I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.” Martin Luther King Jr. realized that he was a temple of God, it's evident in his life. Because he lived as a temple of God, he couldn't help but stand apart from and above the ugliness of racism. He was truly a flower of hope, growing in a dump. What are we?
