"Lumos." Reese muttered.

Quietly, Reese set her feet on the ground and walked over to Grace. She bent down by Grace's bag and opened it. Right away she spotted the blue journal. Taking it out, Reese made her way to the common room.

Once Reese made sure the room was empty, she sat down on the couch and opened the journal.

"Aparecium." Reese muttered. Black words appeared on the page.

Password

"Password?" Questioned Reese. She knew Grace wanted no one in her journal, but she didn't expect a password. So, like Reese would do, she guessed.

"July 15." Reese guessed. She assumed that Grace might use her own birthday. The black lettering disappeared, filling Reese with joy.

Incorrect

"Incorrect? Really? Alright, okay, that's fine. I'll just try something else." Digging far into her memory, Reese recalled things she knew Grace might use as a password.

"Oh, I know! Pumpkin Pasties." The lettering didn't change, in bold lettered it still held the word,

Incorrect

"Really, not even her favorite food? This might be harder than I thought."

Reese tried almost everything. From Graces' favorite book, her favorite subject, her favorite month, (which happened to be December) her favorite color, but nothing.

As drowsiness seemed to settle on Reese, she called it a night. Reese closed the journal and returned it where she found it.

While most kids were spending their Halloween running around the castle having fun, Grace didn't leave her room. Instead, she kept up with her homework and wrote a letter back to her father. She also couldn't help but think about Dumbledore's offer to help with her spells.

After much thought, Grace decided against it. She wanted to figure it out herself, but she really had no idea what to do.

For a last resort, Grace turned to her aunt. Her aunt knew a lot about spells, so Grace hoped she'd be helpful.

Taking out a piece of parchment, Grace dipped her quill in ink and began to right.

Dear Aunt Emily,

Hi, it's Grace here. I know I haven't seen for a very long time, but I have a question for you. Dad says you live in Brimingham, so I do hope this letter finds you. I'd love to see you soon, maybe you could come by during Christmas, or maybe summer? I know you're extremely busy.

Anyway, about my question. If somehow creates a spell, how do they get it work? Does it have to do with the ministry, the wand, the spell creator?

It may seem like an odd question, but I'm just curious.

Which much love, Grace

Grace rolled the piece of parchment and delivered it to the owlery. Once she gave it to her owl, Desiree, Grace made her way to the Great Hall for the Halloween feast.

"This school year has been rather uneventful." Noted Reese as she stacked her plate with food.

"It is only October." Commented Grace.

"Yeah, but–"

"Reese, not every year will be eventful."

"–"I mean no one has even died yet!"

"Reese!"

"I'm kidding! That would be awful if someone were to just die!"

"You have a dark sense of humor sometimes."

"I'm aware."

"But you're somewhat right, this year hasn't been the best."

"Especially with Lockhart being a teacher."

"I guess you can say he's quite riddikulus!" Reese set down her fork and stared at Grace.

"Really?"

"I was trying to make a joke!"

"Grace, that was a terrible joke."

"Sorry."

"Don't apologize."

"Right, sorry."

"Grace."

"Sorry!" Reese stared at Grace, but then broke into giggles. Grace followed after her.

After the feast, students began to clear out. Reese and Grace were one of the first to leave, students trailed behind them.

Grace laughed at a joke that Reese told her, but the laughter soon stopped. The students all quit walking and talking. Instead, they stared at the scene in front of them.

Mrs. Norris was hanging by her tail from the torch bracket. She was wide-eyed and stiff. Harry, Ron, and Hermione stood in the middle of the scene.

"The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir, beware." Reese whispered next to Grace.

"Enemies of the heir, beware! You'll be next, Mudbloods!" Shouted Draco Malfoy. Reese grabbed Grace's arm, her dark brown eyes were glossed over with fear.

"He's just being stupid, you'll be fine Reese." Grace reassured her best friend.

"But Grace, I'm a muggle-born."

"And you'll be fine!"

"Will I?"

"You're Reese, nothing could harm you."
