For River_Jude

You'd lived in Castle Rock for nearly four months now, and you still had minimal information on who the "real" Chris Chambers was.

You had made friends with a couple of his friends, Vern and Gordie. They were cool, but you still didn't really get to know Chris.

Until one day at lunch, you decided to sit with the boys. You had been sitting with Cecelia and her friends, but she was sick, and you were still awkward around her friends, so you asked Vern if you could sit with them instead.

You sat down at the table, next to Vern. Gordie and Teddy were across from you. Just as you guys delved into a conversation about homework, Chris sat down next to Gordie.

"No lunch detention today, Chambers?" Teddy joked, followed by his cackling laugh.

Chris rolled his eyes, despite the smile on his face. "No," he replied. He saw you. "Oh hi there. Nevaeh, right? We have math together."

You nodded. "And science," you added.

"Really?" he replied, looking kind of confused. "Hm. I'd think I'd remember you."

The other three boys all smirked.

Gordie looked over at Chris. "Really? And why's that, Chris?"

Chris's cheeks turned slightly pink. "Well because I have a pretty good memory. That's why." He jabbed Gordie in the side with his elbow.

You were pretty confused, but you at least knew he wasn't a jerk. "Speaking of science, do you guys have the notes from Tuesday?"

After that day, Chris often talked to you in class and even would catch up to you in the hallway. It didn't take very long to become close friends.

"Are you friends with Chris Chambers?" a rather snobby girl in your history class asked you one day.

"Yeah," you replied slowly.

A disgusted look came to the girl's face. "He and his whole family are bad news. They're white trash, everyone knows that."

Your blood boiled, but you remained composed. "I'd rather be friends with white trash than with a bitch. Chris Chambers is a better friend than you will ever know how to be, so is it really him that's 'trash'?"

The girl left you alone the rest of class. Later that day, Chris found you at your locker.

"Did you really say that?" he asked, leaning against the locker next to yours.

"Say what?" You continued to switch out your books. You glanced at him, your dark eyes meeting his lighter ones.

"That I'm a good friend? And that Regina George (leave me alone I'm unoriginal) is a bitch," he smirked as he added the last part.

You felt your cheeks burn. "Yeah. It's true too."

He slung his arm around your shoulders and pulled you into his side. "Come on. We have class to go to." He may not have thanked you, but you could tell by the look in his eyes that he appreciated it.

I'm super super sorry for how late this is. Ik I say that in like every chapter but I'm always slow af w my writing. I hope you like it, and I'll try to update the next one real soon. M'kay.
