'...And I used to look at your face and

feel my heart vibrate against my ribs, but now,It's as if I don't even recognise you.' - E. Grin, it's been so long.

Kane knew meeting Bellamy in a public place was risky.

There was no telling how their meeting would go and he knew it could easily end with Bellamy arresting him under the charge of treason, just as he'd done earlier that day to Sinclair.

In the three months since their escape from Mount Weather, Marcus and Bellamy had forged a strong friendship, much to bother of their surprises. No longer did the two men simply tolerate each other; instead they valued each other's opinions and company.

But while Kane got along with Bellamy, respected him even, he couldn't ignore the fact that the younger male was heading down a dangerous path that could ultimately end in the death of everyone he cared about.

So Kane was there to offer Bellamy a shot at redemption.

Mostly, though, he was there for his daughter. Despite her obvious anger and disgust at Bellamy's decisions – he knew Brinley cared for Bellamy. They'd never spoken about it aloud – and he highly doubted Brinley would allow the conversation to even be started - but Kane knew there was something much more than friendship between them. He'd witnessed first hand the lengths Bellamy would go to in order to keep his daughter safe and alive.

He doubted he'd ever forget the determination on Bellamy's face as he allowed Clarke to use him as a human blood bag in order to keep Brinley alive.

So Kane waited, hoping beyond hope that Bellamy would finally join their side.

He heard footsteps behind him, signalling Bellamy's arrival. The two turned to look at each other, Bellamy shaking his head as though disappointed.

'Wasn't much of a plan, sabotaging the rover. Keeping an eye on Sinclair was an easy call.'

'Was it?' Marcus questioned immediately. 'Spying on your friend, that was easy?'

'People in camp were losing focus. There's a threat outside these walls-' Bellamy tried to make Marcus understand his point of view.

'-the threat's inside the walls. Can't you see that?' Disappointment seeped into Marcus' voice as he glanced at Bellamy.

The two paused briefly as someone walked past them.

'Pike's turning us against each other.' Marcus crossed his arms.

'He's the Chancellor, have you forgotten that?' Bellamy wasn't impressed with the way the conversation was going.

'No. No I haven't.' Marcus admitted lowly, because truthfully it was hard to forget that Pike was Chancellor when everywhere he looked, he could see Pike's influence destroying everything he'd worked so hard on.

'Then do the right thing.' Bellamy implored. It was the last time Bellamy was going to offer either Kane a way to make things right.

'That's the problem, no matter how I look at it, I am.' Marcus admitted roughly.

'Really? Because the way I see it, Monroe died because of you.' Bellamy's voice hardened. The sound of Monroe fighting to do something as simple as breathe had kept Bellamy awake more than once.

'And now Pike's locked up Sinclair. You don't think he'll be the next to die?' Marcus watched Bellamy's face carefully, catching the brief glimpse of shock that appeared there.

'Of course not.' Bellamy's voice lost some of its anger at Kane's question, and the confidence with which it was spoken.

'Think about where this ends. Half the camp behind bars, while the other half starves. People won't stand for it. They'll turn against Pike, but by then it'll be too late.' Marcus could see his words affecting Bellamy, whom was now looking at the ground.
