''Guys..''
Devin Greene and Jeff Atkins looked up from the screen of their phones and at Fiona Denver, the brunette who was eyeing the two with wide eyes.
They were in the library the next day. It was third period.
''What?'' Devin spat.
''You guys are sitting right across from each other and you're going to text each other?''
Devin straightens her posture and sighs. ''Maybe it's because what we want to talk about isn't meant to be so open around for people like you to hear.''
''Devin,'' Jeff calls with a scold in his tone. He turns to Fiona and pursed his lips. ''Yes, we're talking about something a little personal but don't feel offended. It could be anybody sitting here and we would have still done this.''
She shakes her head. ''No, I understand.'' She pushed her seat back and stands. ''I'm going to see if I can find an algebra textbook.''
While Devin was eyeing her from the back make an exit, Jeff waited a fair moment before speaking. ''Do you have to be mean to her?''
''Do you have to think there's something going on between Caleb and I?''
''There is no way in hell he was staring at you like that for no reason,'' He exclaims.
''Jeff,'' She sighs. ''Caleb has a thing for me. But I don't entertain him. I try to avoid him as much as possible.''
He shakes his head.
''At least I can see this kid has a thing for me,'' Devin argues. ''You regret to realize that Fiona, pre-ogre is head over heels for you.''
''She's just a friend.''
''Oh,'' She falls back into her seat. ''That's great, now we're telling lies.''
''What lies?'' He questions furiously. ''I see her as a friend so she will be treated as a friend.''
She takes a moment to study his features and looks away with a huff. ''We can't let them get to us.''
He asks with furrowed brows. ''Huh?''
Scratching her, she looks back at him and explains, ''Caleb and Fiona. We can't let them under our skin when we know how we feel for each other and where we stand.''
Her features twisted into a cringe. ''Where do we stand exactly?''
''Well,-'' Jeff was muted. ''I mean-'' He went silent again. ''Dev, you know where we stand. We almost did it yesterday.''
