Your POV

Everyday seemed to pass the same at the camp, at least for me. Being a nurse and all, I guess it makes sense. Spending everyday patching up men for usually the same reason; bullet wound, bayonet... the occasional loss of a limb is a whole second story...

I was finishing wrapping a soldier's leg after he got shot when I heard someone storm their way into the medical tent. I told the soldier he was free to go and turned to see a very pissed looking Alexander a few feet away from me.

"(Y/N)! You won't believe the sh*t that's going on!"

I wiped my hands on my apron and looked at my angry friend. "Who pissed you off now, Lex?" Alex gave me a 'tch' before replying,

"It's Lee again! I swear to God I'm gonna shoot him!"

I shook my head. "Are you all pissy because of what he was going on about earlier?" After we got back from Monmouth I overheard Charles Lee rambling about how General Washington should go back to Mount Vernon or something like that. He was clearly not having a good day. And seeing as Alex really loves the General, you know he's not gonna have it.

Alex nodded, frustrated. "Yes! I swear he has a death wish, (Y/N)."

I rolled my eyes. "You clearly do too, Alex. You know this isn't gonna go well if he hears you about this right?"

"Yeah yeah. He's still asking for it though."

I sighed. "Have you tried talking to General Washington about this, Lex?"

Alex nodded. "Yep! Said to not do anything about it... which isn't fair! Lee shouldn't get away with this!"

"Have you tried talking to someone else about this? I know you and John are close. I'm not exactly the best with this stuff, Lex. You should know that."

John was my loud, outgoing boyfriend. Also pretty reckless. We met at the same Winter's Ball Alex met Eliza at, thanks to Alex himself. John wasn't too sure about me joining them at war, but after some reassurance, he was fine with it. It was nice knowing I could still see him. I knew knowing John was so reckless this could go horribly, but John knew more than I did about this anyways.

Alex calmed down a bit, hearing his best friend's name. Then he nodded. "You're right."

I grin. "Aren't I always, Lex?"

Alex chuckled. "Sure, we'll go with that. Anyways, I'm gonna go find John now. Thanks for the help, (N/N)!" With that, he ran out of the tent.

~ short time skip! ~

I was walking out of the medical tent, seeing as I was on a quick break. I brushed off my (F/C) dress that had been stuck underneath my apron. I was hoping to find Alex and John with the time I had.

Soon enough, I found a familiar dark haired, fluffy ponytail a good distance away. Instead of joining them, I hid behind a tree a short distance from them to hear what they were saying.

"Strong words from Lee, someone oughta hold him to it." John.

"I can't disobey direct orders.." Alex.

There was a short pause. Oh no... don't tell me...

"Then I'll do it... Alexander, you're the closest friend I got." I peeked around to see John's hand resting on Alex's shoulder.

Alex put his hand on John's shoulder as well and they got a bit closer. I always wondered if they had a thing in the past... "Laurens, do not throw away your shot."

I took a deep breath before walking out like I wasn't there the whole time. I smiled cheerfully at them. "Hey Lex! Hey Johnny!" They turned, a bit startled, but then they both smiled and Alex waved. "(N/N)! I missed youuuu!" John said, coming over while dragging out the U and wrapping me in a hug. I giggled. "You saw me this morning, you goof."

John released me from the hug and looked at me, a lopsided smile on his face. "This morning isn't enough I tell you." He grabbed my arm gently and pulled me back over to Alex, not letting go of my arm. I smiled again and rested my head against his arm, seeing as he's well... a bit taller than me (sorry readers you are short... that's okay.. I am too). I played off like I didn't hear a thing. "So, what've you guys been discussing?"

Alex looked almost panicked a second but quickly went back to normal. "Not much. Just talked about Lee is all." Okay... technically telling the truth there... just not the full one.

John nodded. "Yeah. We don't exactly know what to do yet." I nodded, and with that we just started talking about things such as the war.

After a bit of talking, I realized I had to go back to work. I looked at Alex, and at John, who still didn't let go of my arm... not that I'm complaining. "Sorry guys... but I need to head back to work." Alex nodded, while John pulled me closer. "Whyyyyy? Just stay with us!"

I laughed. "You know I would, Johnny. But duty calls!" John let me go with a pout. I smiled and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek. "You know you can always visit me, just not for too long though." I didn't want to leave. I knew John would be dueling but it scared me that I didn't know when. John smiled. "I'll have to come by later then."

I waved to them both one last time. "Bye Johnny! Bye Lex!" I turned and started making my way back to the medical. I took a sneaky glance behind me and saw John looking at me with a sad eyes, and Alex looking at him just as sadly. I looked back forward as I went into the medical tent.

I had to stop that duel...
