"We won!"

"We won! We won!"

"The world turned upside down."

Third Person POV

The Laurens siblings didn't even know the war was over yet. As far as they knew, it was still going on as they traversed through South Carolina.

Both wanted to go home for the same reason: family. (Y/N) wished to see her husband Alexander after he got sent home from the war. Meanwhile, her brother wished to see his wife, Elizabeth Schuyler-Laurens.

But the two were keeping up their fight for slavery, still trying to complete the first all-black, three thousand men strong military regiment.

Now however, they were looking for the British, trying to corner them. It was one of the last things needed to go home, but the most tedious. Anything could happen.

~

It didn't for the revolutionaries to find the redcoats, engaging immediately into a battle.

Even after what felt like an eternity, nobody could tell who was winning. Everything was fast paced, and it wasn't until the male Laurens watched his sister drop when everything finally slowed down.

John ran over, not even caring about the remaining soldiers. "F*ck! (Y/N)!"

Under her hand, John watched the crimson liquid stain the bold fabric. She was hit in the chest.

John knelt down, spotting the redcoat responsible and firing two shots, one in the chest, the other in the head. The redcoat collapsed lifelessly, his blood matching the uniform he adorned.

Moving the female Laurens's hand and trying to apply pressure on the wound, that didn't last long before John felt pain pass through his chest. Some red b*stard shot him too, in the same place as (Y/N).

Gritting his teeth, John turned his body, firing another shot into the soldier's head. He couldn't hold himself up for much longer; the bullet's placement was too fatal as he fell next to his sister.

(Y/N) turned her head slowly, looking at her brother. "A-At least w-e went down to-togeth-er..."

John smiled through his pain, feeling her grab his hand. He held it tightly, looking up at the night sky. "W-We did.."

"Tomorrow there'll b-be..." (Y/N) started, unable to finish as her eyes fluttered shut.

John felt a tear slip down his face as his hazel eyes started to close too. "...more of us..."

~

"I may not live to see our glory..." (Y/N) looked at her brother as they stood in the room.

"Alexander? There's a letter for you from South Carolina."

Said man looked up from his parchment, glancing at his wife's close friend. "It's from (Y/N); I'll be sure to read it later."

"But I will gladly join the fight," John responded, looking back at his sister.

"No. It's from her father," Eliza stated solemnly.

"Her father?"

"And when our children tell our story.." (Y/N) whispered, turning to look at her husband.

"Will you read it?" Alexander asked his friend.

"They'll tell the story of tonight..." John added, taking a step towards his wife. He saw that she too had a letter in her hand. 'Mrs. Schuyler-Laurens.'

Eliza tucked her own letter aside, still unaware of its contents.

'On Tuesday the twenty-seventh, my daughter was killed in a gun fight against British troops retreating from South Carolina. The war was already over.

As you know, (Y/N) and her brother dreamed of emancipating and recruiting 3,000 men for the first all-black military regiment.

Her dream of freedom for these men dies with her.'

Alexander took the letter hesitantly, watching Eliza slowly open her own. He watched her dark eyes scan the parchment, widening with tears once she got to the end. She looked up at Alexander, only handing him the letter with trembling hands.

Alexander read through it, his heart sinking even more. Not only had his wife died, but his best friend too. All at the same time. Both people felt their worlds crashing down around them.

The Laurens siblings looked sadly at each other, each walking to their significant other. Alexander's dark eyes widened, making eye contact with his wife. She didn't say anything, only smiling sadly and hugging him. The ghostly contact felt weird yet... oddly comforting.

At the same time, John approached his shaking wife, who was barely keeping herself together. Eliza felt more tears stream down her face somehow seeing her own husband in front of her. He was silent, holding her face in his faded hands. John rested his forehead against Eliza's, smiling softly. His wife sniffled, smiling back through her tears.

It was like that a few moments more before the Laurens siblings disappeared from sight, but not before one last thing was heard from both of them. "Tomorrow there'll be more of us."

The close friends looked at each other helplessly. "A-Are you alright?" Eliza asked quietly.

Alexander shook his head. "I-I have so much work to do..."
