Your POV

Being with the Marines had its pros as well as its cons. Pros were I was defending my home country and keeping millions protected, cons were I was barely home and always away from my family.

I hadn't been home in three years, missing over a thousand days that could've been spent with my wife, Pippa. I missed her face, but luckily I'd be home sooner rather than later.

Pippa's POV

Lin, being the man he was, decided to end 2015 with a bang by celebrating New Years with the OBC Hamilcast. We were all in the green room (is that what it's called?), dancing around to music or just talking amongst ourselves, such as Lin and Vanessa.

I was talking to Renée, and Jas had been there too before Anthony swept her off to another part of the room.

I looked at Renée. "So, how are Benjamin and Brielle?"

She beamed. "Wonderful! Benjamin is doing so well in his sports! And Brielle is such an angel."

I laughed. "That's so nice to hear!"

Renée nodded after looking around the room, a knowing look in her eyes that confused me. "What's with that look in your eyes?"

Renée only smiled. "Oh nothing~! New Years spirit, y'know? The kids are going to be so excited tomorrow."

"Tell me about it!" I heard Lin pipe up from nearby. Renée and I laughed as well as Vanessa.

"He's right. I'm sure Seb will be everywhere tomorrow," Vanessa spoke.

"I would, but we still have shows tomorrow," I replied, cracking a smile.

Renée nodded as Lin and Vanessa turned back to their conversation.

"Ten minutes y'all!" Jas called.

Having long since finished my conversation with Renée, I managed to slip out the green room door. I walked out on the stage, a couple lights luckily still on. I stood in the center, looking out. I had this view at the end of every show and it never ceased to amaze me.

Knowing everyone was preoccupied, I pulled out my phone. Setting it at max volume, I placed it on the floor of the stage as the song started playing.

"Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep; dreaming about the things that we could be."

Your POV

"I see this life, like a swinging vine. Swing my heart across the line."

I knew that song anywhere. Pippa and I had called it our song since we both heard it for the first time. It was oddly fitting in a way. We were always dreaming about things we could be when I was far away from her.

During the little free time I'd had, I managed to FaceTime Pippa. Just because I was a marine, didn't mean I didn't know how to sing. I wasn't Pippa good, but I was still good in my own eyes. She thought so too. 'Counting Stars' was our go-to song to sing.

I had decided to leave my uniform on, but let my hair out of its tight bun it was always in. Even after all these years, it was always a relief to take out.

I watched my wife from the shadows by the door, watching her walk around the stage, singing without a care.

Walking down silently, I traveled down the aisle, my eyes on Pippa the whole time. She had yet to spot me, absorbed in her own world. I managed to slip onto the stage and get behind her.

"I couldn't lie, couldn't lie, couldn't lie.

Everything that kills me makes me feel alive."

For the chorus, I managed to dodge Pippa's sight, enjoying her voice. She usually sang the chorus anyways, and let me do the verses.

"Yeah we'll be counting stars."

I couldn't help the grin that crossed my face as she finished the last line of the chorus. I took a slight step toward her.

"I feel the love, and I feel it burn. Down this river, every turn.

Hope is a four letter word. Make that money, watch it burn."

I watched as Pippa jumped, turning around. I grabbed her hand, letting her continue the verse until she got to the chorus.

I joined her through the chorus and eventually the song was reaching the end.

"Take that money, watch it burn. Sink into the river the lessons I learned."

The song reached its end and as soon as it did, Pippa was staring at me in shock.

"I- You- You weren't supposed to-- Wha?"

She stared at me another moment. "Is it really you?"

I gave her a sharp salute. "Sergeant (Y/N) Soo- reporting for duty."

In a few seconds, I had lifted Pippa in the air with ease, spinning her around. She laughed as I set her down. "It only took you three years to come back!"

"Remember who's protecting your butt, Pips. Don't be sassy!"

She held onto both of my hands. "How long are you back for?"

I smiled mischievously. "As of now, all of 2016."

Pippa's dark eyes widened and she hugged me again, letting me pick her up again. Her legs looped around my waist, making me laugh.

New year, better us. For sure.
