You huffed as you repeatedly stabbed your steak as you watched James shamelessly flirt with an uncomfortable Lily.

"Erm... Y/n? I think your steak's had enough." You turned your head to your friend, then turning to your steak. Letting out an embarassed laugh as you took a look at the now mangled steak.

"Sorry." You said sheepishly as you put down your fork.

You turned to look at James once again, seeing a now blushing Lily and a smirking James. You sighed having seen enough, you picked up your bag and left the hall.

"What spell can..."

"Correct, 5 points to..."

Pssst! Y/l/n!

"Okay, open your books to..."

Y/n!

"What?" You turned around, your eyes widening to see a smirking James. His hair fell over his eyes as he swiftly ran his hand through it. A blush spread across your cheeks, and just as you were about to turn around-

"Y/l/n. Here. Pass it to Evans over there." He nodded to the girl diagonally in front of you. Slightly bummed, you took the piece of paper and passed it to Lily. You watched her reaction carefully, as she turned and glared at James. You sighed as she crumpled the paper and left it aside.

James, why can't you see I can treat you so much better?

"Potter! Just stay away from me!"

You heard the voice of Lily Evans just as you turned the corner. You stopped in your tracks as you heard James' voice.

"Wait Lily stop-" you heard him sigh.

You decided to turn the corner. You saw James sitting with his head in his knees. You slowly walked up to him and sat next to him. His head slowly rose and focused on you, you saw the trails of tears on his cheeks. Sighing, you wiped away his tears.

"You shouldn't be crying over a girl that doesn't deserve your love." You said as you smiled sadly at him. You could see how much pain Lily's rejection gave him.

"I-I just love her so damn much... But she decides to hate me instead." He was just about to put his head down when you pulled him in for a hug.

"If she doesn't see how much of a great guy you actually are, then she doesn't deserve your love, James." You said rubbing his back, just as you were about to pull away, because of the awkwardness of him not hugging you back, his arms slowly wrapped around your waist, and he cried into your shoulder. You bit your lip as you rubbed his back.

You two sat there for a good 15 minutes. Finally, he pulled away, wiping his tears. You smiled at him slightly, a blush spreading across your cheeks.

"Thank you, Y/n." He said genuinely as he smiled at you.

"Anytime Ja-"

"Y/N Y/L/N! WHERE WERE YO-oh uhm... sorry was I...?" You turned to see your friend laughing slightly. You stood up and stretched before walking with your friend.

"No we were just talking-"

"GREAT! You have to help me and y/o/f with our essay rememberrr?" She said stretching the 'r'. She grabbed your hand and started dragging you away. You laughed, turning around to wave at James, who was already staring at you.

You were sitting with your friends as you quietly ate. Your eyes trailed to the Gryffindor table. Y/e/c eyes met Hazel. You blushed and looked away, wondering why he was looking at you.

At the Gryffindor table, James smirked when he saw the blush that spread across your cheeks. He continued eating, smiling to himself as he thought of you.

"Yo mate! Thinking of Evans again?" His friends said, teasing him. He smirked looking up, just as he finished his food.

"Actually, no. It's... Someone else." He chuckled at his friends' reaction, before walking out of the Great Hall.

You were walking with your friends when they all stopped in their tracks. You raised your eyebrow at them.

"Guys? What's wrong?" You asked as they started smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

"What-"

Before you could finish your sentence, arms wrapped around your waist. You froze as the cologne of James Potter filled your nose.

"Something wrong, Y/n?" His deep voice chuckled as his arms left your waist. You turned around, to see him standing there.

"Y/n Y/l/n. I spent my time over the years, chasing someone hopelessly, ignoring the little ray of sunshine beside me. And I'm so sorry for that. I want to make it up to you so... Will you, Y/n Y/l/n, do the honor of going on a date with me?"

Your jaw dropped to the floor as he smirked at you.

"Yes!" You smiled as he grinned and hugged you. You laughed as he lifted you up.

"My little ray of sunshine."

He whispered in your ear as he held you close. Your moment was cut off though, when all your friends started cheering you both on. You laughed, just as James raised your interlocked hands, and his friends started hollering at him.

You smiled at him as he turned his head to see you smiling at him. He grinned as he wrapped his arm around you once again.

All was well.
