(Reece's POV)
I don't know how it happened, but I think I've made a friend. On the first day I came to this school, she let me use her pencil in French class and we've just been talking in class ever since. I didn't really consider her anything but an acquaintance until today when she introduced me to some other kid as her friend.
"Alex, what does this mean?" She sits next to me in French, a language I'm more than terrible at.
"It's asking you for your name, dumbass." She teases me, giggling.
"Okay, okay, sorry!" I exclaim, laughing as I quickly scribble my name on the paper.
"Hey, did I tell you that I'm trying to transfer to your lunch hour?" She asks, peering up at me.
"Really? That'd be cool." I comment.
"I thought so." She nods, happy with her own decision. "Who do you sit with?"
"Uh... Peter and Ned." I inform her.
She hesitates, thinking hard. "Yeah, I don't know who they are."
"Don't worry," I assure her. "I'll introduce you."
The day went by slower than usual, probably because I was anxious to find out what was on Cuffman's flash drive. In AP Calc we worked silently in our textbooks, and nothing interesting happened at all.
But then it was time for lunch. Peter and I walked together, as usual. We get to the lunch room and Peter holds up a brown paper bag. "May made me a lunch. But do you want me to come with you to help you pay?"
I give him a small smile and shake my head. "No, I got this. I remember everything you taught me."
He returns that smile, nodding. "Okay... You sure?"
I nod firmly. "Positive."
He nods back. "Okay."
And we then go our separate ways, him heading towards our usual table with Ned, me heading for the lunch line. I get my meal and pay, everything going smoothly.
But just as I'm heading to my usual table, holding the blue tray of food in my hands, a tall blond headed girl stops me. She's got a lot of makeup on, but it looks beautiful on her. She's wearing a blue dress that matched her bright eyes. I stare at her, raising my eyebrows in confusion. "Excuse me." I try to get past her but she steps in front of me again.
"I'm Regan." She smiles at me, her teeth perfectly straight and super white. "You're Reece, right?"
"Uh... Yeah." I answer, mildly confused as to why the hell she cares.
"You're pretty." She compliments me.
"Wow, thank you." I give her a small smile, still confused as to why she's even talking to me. "Uh, you are too."
"I know." She nods. "I was just wondering..." Regan begins, looking back at her own lunch table, so generally my eyes follow her gaze. "If you'd like to sit with us?" Her table consisted of four other girls and two guys.
All the girls wore heavy makeup and small clothing. The guys were wearing football jerseys. I was so close to rolling my eyes. They were the cliché popular kids of high school, like the ones you'd see in the movies. "Um... thanks, but no thanks. I'm good with where I sit."
Regan stares at me, as if I were going to say more. "Seriously? You're turning us down?"
"Uh... Yeah." I respond.
"Do you even know who I am?" She looks offended.
"Um, yes, you just told me."
"And you're still turning us down?"
