(Reece's POV)

After work on Monday seemed like the best time to call Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes to see if they had any sort of updates for me. I was too scared to try and contact them at the Avengers Tower, only because Tony has that place wired top to bottom. He would definitely catch on and eventually find out.

So, there I sat at one of the tables, the keys to the shop in my hand. Fortunately, Ross let me close up shop tonight.

"Hello?" Steve's voice rang in my ear.

"Steve? It's Reece."

"Hey, Reece." He sounded surprised, yet pleased to hear my voice. "What's up?"

"Just checking in..." I respond. "The other day Tony thought he had found Lea in some old abandoned building in Queens on 53rd street."

"... And?"

"And he was wrong. It was a trap. The place was wired with explosives." I explain.

"Is everyone okay?" Steve sounded worried. He obviously still cared about his former Avenger coworkers.

"Yeah, everyone's fine." I answer.

There's a small pause and I can hear another voice in the background but everything they're saying is muffled. "Where was the building again? Bucky wants to know."

"53rd street."

"Yeah," Bucky's voice now echoes in my ear. "Lea would never go there, it's too risky. They were smart about it though, obviously, you fell for the trap."

"Oi." I say, offended. "I didn't. Tony fell for the trap."

"... whatever." Bucky mumbles.

"We don't have much of an update for you yet." Steve then informs me. "But there is just one thing I wanted to ask you... Do you know of a man named Bentley Healy?"

My heart skips a beat at the sound of his name. "Yes." I swallow hard. "That would be my father... why?"

At first, they don't say anything and it's complete and utter silence. "It's just... uh..." Steve hesitates. "We just needed to make sure he was your father."

Oh, he's definitely lying. But I don't call him out on it. "Right..."

"Anyways, we gotta get going." Steve says, quick to say goodbye. "We'll call you if we find anything and vise versa?"

"Yeah... sure."

"Great. Bye, Reece." And he hangs up, leaving me with just one question:

Why the hell is he lying to me about my father?

"I can't believe you actually talked her into going to homecoming." Alex was legitimately shocked. The night after Peter had asked me, I texted Alex and told her I was going to hoco(is what I've learned the people shorten it to).

"What? You think she'd turn me down?" Peter asks Alex, furrowing his eyebrows. They have a normal conversation about me, as if I weren't even there.

"Honestly..." Alex glances in my direction, me never putting my chocolate milk down to say anything. "Yes."

But then my chocolate milk almost comes out of my nose because of how seriously Alex had responded, making me laugh. I quickly grab the wad of napkins sitting on Peter's tray and spit my chocolate milk into them, coughing like crazy. Alex slaps my back and Peter throws more paper towels in my direction.

"Was it something I said?" Alex jokes, knowing all too well that answer to her question.

"You're such a bitch." I laugh harshly, coughing up some more milk and wiping my mouth with the paper towels.
