(Peter's POV)
Homecoming was less than a week away. Alex has brought it up at lunch a few times, but Reece was still iffy about it. But I've already made up my mind that I wanted to go. It's the last one I'll ever have so I might as well just go. And I wanted Reece to go with me.
So, at lunch when I finally made that decision of going to homecoming in my head, next I had to come up with a plan on how to ask Reece to go with me.
Half way through lunch, Reece drank both mine and her's milk cartons so when she stood up, I knew what was coming. "I have to pee, I'll be right back." And she walked away.
"Guys." I turn my head sharply to the side to look at Ned and Alex once Reece was out of earshot.
Alex looks slightly startled, her eyebrows raised. "What?"
"I want to ask Reece to homecoming." I spit out, talking low and fast.
"Does she even want to go?" Ned asks, his voice hushed as well.
"Maybe if I formally ask her, she'll go with me." I insist. Reece may be an obstinate girl, but she's even told me herself that her stubbornness vanishes when she's around me. "But, how should I ask her?"
Alex, in mid-scoop of eating her applesauce, slams her spoon down on the table next to her and stares intensely at me. "Alright, ready for this?"
I raise my eyebrows. "Should I be taking notes?"
"You need a sign with a cheesy pun to ask her with, get some flowers, make some cookies, you need the whole damn marching band, sir." Alex exclaims, flailing her arms around as she speaks. "Might as well just sing her a ballad at that point... Go all out, is what I'm saying."
Ned and I stare blankly at Alex, trying to let all that sink in. "Alex..." Ned finally speaks. "Do you even know Reece?"
"He's got a point." I comment. "That's the exact opposite of what Reece would want. She doesn't like to be the center of attention."
Alex then smiles brightly, picking her plastic spoon back up again. "I know... that, my friends, was a test." She pops a spoon full of applesauce into her mouth. "Congrats. You passed."
I chuckle and roll my eyes as Ned laughs along too. He then turns his head to look at me, staring into my eyes. "Just ask her, dude. She'll say yes."
I bite my lip, nodding slowly. "Yeah... okay."
"Hey," Alex begins, pointing her spoon at me. "And the worst she could say is no."

Ned and I didn't have academic decathlon practice after school today so Reece got to drive us home. She dropped Ned off at his house and we decided to hang out at my apartment together. Reece was dying to see May, and vise versa.
"I feel like I haven't seen her in forever." Reece says, keeping her eyes focused on the road.
"May said the same exact thing yesterday about you." I tell her. "And then she yelled at me for hogging you and that I was officially obliged to invite you to dinner tonight." I pause. "Although, I would have invited you either way."
Reece laughs at this, shaking her head. "You Parker's..."
When we get to my apartment building, Reece parks the car and we quickly make our way up the stairs. "Hey... Reece?" I ask, stopping at the beginning of the hall before we could reach my apartment.
She stops as well and turns around to look at me. There's a small smile on her face and she raises her eyebrows, her eyes sparkling. "Yeah?"
"I, uh..." I hesitate, taking a deep breath. This is it. I'm just gonna ask her. "Would you-?"
