for the first time, stray kids were invited to the kbs song festival. it was an aired program that featured long-duration performances from various idol group as well as company specials. there would be a sm special stage, jypnation, and much more this year.
rosey was seated backstage in a stylist chair, having her hair styled according to the staff's specifications. they decided to stop using heat on her hair today and let her natural curls shine.
she was on in less than thirty minutes.
she was scheduled to perform with momo from a senior group, twice. rosey was close to momo because they were both from japan and frequently spoke in japanese. rosey was greatly inspired by the older girl.
there were two knocks on the group's waiting room door. rosey heard the door open and squeak shut, followed by a smooth voice.
"hello~"
for a few seconds, the staff moved away from rosey's face, allowing the products to settle into her brown hair. her gaze was drawn to momo in the mirror, where she could see the older girl standing behind her chair.
rosey bowed and stood up quickly, her nerves setting in.
"oh, hello!" rosey exclaimed.
momo stepped out from behind the chair, returned the bow, and sat in the stylist chair next to rosey's. as the staff began to pick at her hair again, the younger girl sat back down.
for a few minutes, the girls conversed. momo wanted to strike up a conversation with the rookie group member before going on stage to calm her nerves. momo used this strategy frequently to assist anyone she was performing with, whether they were older or younger.
"unnie, your hair is pretty."
rosey noticed momo's newly dyed hair. it looked great on the twice member and complemented her nicely.
"thank you! the managers advised me to try something new for this event. the other girls also told me that i needed a small change because i've had the same hairstyle for so long." the older girl explained as she messed with the ends of her hair.
"where are your other members?" rosey asked.
"i could ask you the same question." momo shrugged.
rosey turned around to see that the boys had vanished. seungmin was the person left in the room, sitting on the sofa and staring at his phone screen. she caught a glimpse of someone, most likely jeongin, leaving the room.
"i found two of them!"
rosey raised her head to where momo was pointing. the stage where twice's chaeyoung and stray kids' jisung were performing was displayed on a screen in the corner of the room. rosey's gaze was fixed on her fellow member, who was performing admirably and looked great.
when momo noticed how the girl was watching the screen, she smiled.
"do you, perhaps, like jisung?" momo inquired, her gaze fixed on the girl, who had returned to her own activities.
rosey was taken aback by the question, which came completely out of left field. was it her way of looking at the screen? rosey didn't have any certain feelings at the time, so why would she ask?
"huh?" her eyes widened.
"you're blushing!"
"no, no, i don't—"
momo approached the waiting room door, her hand on the doorknob, "make sure you're ready to perform, jisung will be watching," she teased the younger with a wink.
rosey returned her attention from the door to her member, who was sitting on the sofa. seungmin motioned to the corner of the room and her gaze followed. hyunjin sat there with a fake smile on his face, telling rosey how jeongin had left in a hurry.
"i had no idea he came back; is he okay?"
hyunjin and seungmin shook their heads. rosey sighed and exited the room, feeling overwhelmed. her legs led her to the water station, where she found a few other idols chatting.
as she approached the area, she heard a familiar voice belonging to a specific blue-haired boy. she spun around on her feet. she didn't have a crush on him, but after momo's accusations, she didn't want to develop one. she took a few quick steps towards the group's room.
"rosey!" yelled someone behind her.
she sighed, "oh."
her legs came to a halt and she looked back, seeing the boy attempting to catch up with her. she shifted on her feet to face him.
"what are you doing over here?" jisung inquired.
she looked around, her gaze falling on the youngest member of her group who was walking back towards the waiting room.
"i was looking for jeongin!" she lied, "hyunjin said he left our room in a hurry, just wanted to make sure be was okay!"
she turned on her feet once more and walked towards the room. the boy was left standing alone and perplexed by her quick speech and abrupt disappearance. he could tell she was nervous, but he couldn't figure out what was bothering her.
her arm was grabbed just as she approached the "stray kids" door. when she examined the hand and determined who it belonged to, a staff member informed her that she had run out of time to wander around.
it was time for her to prepare for her performance. she was physically prepared, she was not mentally. all of the thoughts that were going through her head were holding her back.
while she pushed everything to the back of her mind and went on stage, her members sat in the room. they were as glued to the tv as rosey had been earlier. they silently applauded her, called out her name, and cheered when the performance ended.
the two vocalists' performance was a success. the audience heard different slow tempo songs from the two idols, but they complimented each other well.
rosey bowed as she walked off stage, greeted by staff members who clapped for them as they did for every idol who exited the stage after a performance. she went into the room where her group was and sat alone in the corner.
hyunjin was stealing glances at the girl in the corner who was playing with her hands. jisung was still perplexed as to what was wrong, but didn't want to intrude. jeongin, on the other hand, was the first by her side.
