rosey was awake, sitting up on her bed, staring out the window, which let in just a sliver of moonlight. she made a point of remaining silent while others in the room and other rooms around her dozed off.
rosey shifted her white covers to the side and took a step onto the cold floor. the coldness rushed through her body, causing her to shiver.
her legs took her to the bedroom door, slowly opening it to leave. she didn't close it behind her because she couldn't stand hearing the creeks again while coming back in.
her mind was racing as she closed her eyes and tried to sleep. the thoughts began simple and grew more complex as the minutes passed. this had kept her awake longer than she would have liked and she needed a drink of water.
she rummaged through the cabinets for a cup as soon as she entered the kitchen. she was on her tiptoes as her hand reached deep into the cabinet to retrieve a glass.
rosey huffed as she was unable to grasp the glass. her hand fell to her side as her feet landed flat on the floor once more. she turned around a leaned back against the counter, her gaze drawn to someone seated at the table.
she let out a soft yelp, startled by the member who had joined her silently.
"when did you get here?" rosey inquired of the youngest.
"i followed you out here because i couldn't sleep," jeongin said quietly, "we must both be good at staying quiet."
rosey smirked and shrugged jokingly. she watched as he stood up and approached her.
"do you need help getting something?"
she pushed herself away from the counter and turned towards him, nodding. she raised her finger and spoke.
"a glass, please."
he smiled at her politeness and quickly grabbed the glass from the back. as she reached for it, his hand placed it on the counter.
"are you okay?" the boy asked.
"yeah, i'm okay, why?" rosey replied as she filled her cup with cold water.
the boy returned to his original seat. he scratched the back of his head and sighed.
"you don't wake up in the middle of the night, did you have a nightmare?"
she shook her head and drank a sip of water.
"no, i've been awake for a while now."
"thinking?"
"yeah."
his correct guess elicited laughter from the two. their laughter grew louder as their conversation progressed, eventually turning into jokes.
in the distance, a door opened and jeongin reached for the light switches. the kitchen lights went out, leaving the two in the dark. their laughter was muffled but still audible in the silence.
"go to sleep!" minho yelled from the doorway of his room, closing it after.
to be safe, the lights remained turned off despite hearing the door close. jeongin turned the lights back on after the older member had stayed in the room for a while.
the thrill of such a small moment excited both of them. her smile was contagious; just looking at her made him smile as well.
he drew the girl into a hug because she was adorable to him. her arms were wrapped around his waist and her head was resting on his chest.
he took the opportunity to give the girl a quick kiss on the lips when she tried to pull away to get another drink of water.
"oh!" exclaimed rosey.
her cheeks turned pink instantly and her hands moved aimlessly as she lost track of what she was looking for. jeongin brought his girlfriend back to reality, placing the cold cup into her shaky hands.
jeongin stood there watching as she sipped from the cup, her hands still. he leaned in close to her and whispered.
"i apologize for startling you."
she placed the cup down and shook her head, "no, i'm not startled, just taken off guard."
"i guess i just have a habit of kissing you at midnight." he said with a smile.
rosey's lips curved into a shy smile as she recalled their first kiss, also at midnight. her hand came in contact with his arm, hitting him playfully. their laughter resurfaced and they returned to their room to try an accompany each other to sleep.
