Lando was laying on is hard bed. He couldn't find sleep. He was laying there like almost everyday. The beaming light of the policemen flashlights were entering his room, flashing inside his small bedroom repetitively. Since the beginning of the dictatorship, the police patrol strolled in the streets every night after curfew. Lando's dad told him how it was before it. He had tried to imagine a world where freedom was the most important thing, where you could leave your house whenever you wanted. But it was only in his head. His parents met when the world was still free. At the time they weren't meant to be together but they made it anyway. He stood up looking at the grey walls, the empty room he had to live in. He walked downstairs, all his house was soulless, he took a glass of cold water before trying to sleep again.

The dictatorship ruled the whole world. You couldn't even love who you wanted.

. . .

Carlos was looking again and again at the posters all around the walls of his big bedroom. He couldn't find sleep. Even though he had everything he needed, he didn't like his life. His family was one of the most powerful of the world. They were all working for the dictatorship and his parents wanted him to follow them. But Carlos wasn't like them. He believed that the regime was unfair and no good for the world. He had everything when others where in the streets dying of starvation and hypothermia. Thinking of hunger, he realized that his mouth was dry and decided to go find a glass of water downstairs. He walked down the big marber white stairs. His parents were sat around the dining table with two glasses of red wine.

"What are you doing up at this time ? You have school tomorrow." Spat Carlos Sr, Carlos' dad.

"I can't sleep papa." Replied the young Spaniard coldly. "I just came to take a glass of water."

"Querido, I washed your police uniform for tomorrow." Explained Carlos' mom.

Carlos hated this organisation. He was part of the small part of the police who had to intervene in the university. Sometimes they had to go do some patrols at night but they mostly had to watch the students. The rules of the dictatorship were simple: no display of affection in the streets, the relationships were forbidden, if any statement, action was against the regime, they had to intervene. Carlos hated this but he was the leader of it because of his parents who forced him.

The Spaniard took his glass quickly and went upstairs as fast as he could. In his room, he sat in front of the large window looking at the starry sky.

...

Lando woke up, his alarm ringing loudly. The sun was piercing through the curtains. He went downstairs, only with his underpants and t shirt on. He opened the cupboard and took his bowl that he had since he was 8. It was with Donald Duck on it, his favorite cartoon character. He took a bottle of milk in the fridge and his box of cereals. After putting everything in his bowl he sat and started reading the back of the cereals box for the hundredth time. He knew it by heart. He knew that their corn was cultivated in Arizona. He knew that the box was biodegradable. He knew that the little rabbit had to take the fourth way to arrive to his carrot.

His dad was already at work. He quickly washed his stuff. He went upstairs, took the first clothes in his closet. Once he was ready, he quickly left his house to catch the bus before being late.
