A week later, I still didn't know how to tell Leo about my daughter. I went on Google to search for how to do it without knowing how much of a terrible idea it was. Most of the things I saw online were men saying they didn't want to date a single mum because why would he want to raise another man's child?

I sighed and sank deeper into the couch as Amari and I watched Toy Story. "Baby do you want something?" I asked quietly and she shook her head. She developed a cold two days ago and had a fever and a sore throat. Because I wanted to stay and take care of her, I lied at the office and said I was sick and couldn't come in and Leo told me to take the rest of the week off, for which I was very grateful.

On a normal day, Amari loved being with me. Whenever she was sick, it got worse. She would always insist I take her with me every where I go or laid down with her or took her in my arms. I didn't like seeing her sick. She was an active happy child on a normal day, so seeing her so inactive bothered me.

I felt her face and her neck and frowned when I realized that her body was hotter than it was before. I reached out to get the thermometer that was on the table and at that moment, she vomited and it ended up on both of us. I shot out of the couch so it won't get on it and used my hand to catch some while I hurried into the bathroom. She began crying as I washed off the vomit and everything else. Calming her down took some time but when it finally happened, I opened the plastic tube and took out the thermometer and placed it in her mouth as I moved to my room. Pulling off my blouse to change into another one, I looked up when she coughed. I heard her wheezing and frowned a little.

After checking the results of the thermometer and realizing that her temperature was higher than it had been, I decided to give her paracetamol to reduce the fever but she vomited it again. That had been the pattern for sometime now. She Gould barely keep anything down, she vomited almost everything that entered her mouth. I was concerned because a cold had never got her that bad before.

With the hope that it'd reduce her fever, I gave her a sponge bath with lukewarm water and dried her body before dressing her in light clothes.

I was worried about the fact that she was that weak as a result of cold and wondered if there was another underlying cause. She was breathing fast. Having a change of mind, I quickly shed the indoor clothes I had on and changed to something I could wear out so I'd just take her to the hospital. While trying to pack my hair neatly, I heard a sound that made me rush out of the bathroom to check on her and a scream tore out of my mouth when I saw her jerking on the bed. Her eyes had rolled back and she was foaming from the mouth. She was  having a seizure right there in front of me.

All that left my mouth was Oh God and Jesus. I was confused and couldn't think. I didn't know what to do. I ran back to the sitting room where I left my phone and quickly dialled my mother's number as I ran back into the room but it didn't connect.

That's was when I started crying as the feeling of helplessness overwhelmed me and a lump of fear formed in my throat. All I could think was What if something happened to my daughter?

"Baby please don't do this to me." I said as I wiped the tears off my face and held her hand while I dialled the next number that came to my head.

"Hello." Danica said from the other end when she picked and I began stammering out what was going on and she stopped me by telling me to calm down and speak properly because she couldn't hear what I was saying.

"What do you do when a child is having a seizure?" I finally got out with a voice laced with desperation and fear. Looking at Amari, I saw that the jerks were reducing.

"Oh my God!" she gasped and a sob broke free from my mouth. "First of all, do not put anything in the child's mouth and make sure he's not where something can hurt him. Don't hold him down, just lay him on his side so he doesn't choke on anything if foam or saliva is coming out." she fired rapidly and I did just that. I wiped the foam and sniffed. I'd never felt as helpless as I had at that point in time. The fear of anything happening to her was something I couldn't bear. Tears refused to stop running down my face as I watched her. Finally, it stopped and after sometime minutes, she opened her eyes.
