An Angel's Whisper

Part 26: Floating

Haku threw herself at Neru. Neru fell backwards.

"Jesus Christ, I need some water. Let me go."

"Nooo..."

"Why? I'm thirsty."

"I'm hungryyy..."

"I'm not surprised. You didn't come and eat."

"You ate without me?"

"Yes. You didn't come down."

"You're so mean!" Haku cried.

"No, I'm not."

"You're a bullyyyy..."

"Let me get my water. I'll come back, promise."

"Double dog pinky promise?"

"Sure."

Haku let go. Neru stood back up and went to the bathroom. She had a drink, and immediately came back into the room.

"NERU! You're back! You were gone for agessss..."

"Not really."

"You... have a good face..."

"...What?"

"FACE! I like it."

"Uhh, thanks?"

"Can I tell you something?"

"Of course."

Haku leaned in to Neru, seemingly to whisper.

"DID YOU KNOW, I AM GAY?"

"Stop shouting. That was right in my ear."

"I love you..!"

"Thanks."

"Say it back."

"I love you too."

"Yay!" Haku put her arms around Neru, and put her chin on Neru's shoulder.

"Are you tired yet?"

"No."

"Goddamn it. At least you-"

"Neruuuu?"

"What?"

"My stomach hurts..."

"Great. Fantastic. Absolutely fa-"

Haku made a noise that sounded almost like a croak. Like a drowning frog.

"What... Did you... Just do?" Neru sighed, staying extremely still.

"Yucky..."

"Haku?"

"That's me!"

"Just go and clean up."

"In the bathroom?"

"Yes. Come back once you're all clean and okay."

"Okayyyy!"

Haku stumbled off into the bathroom, leaving Neru to put on clean clothes. She put on one of Haku's shirts and sat back onto the bed. Haku came back into the room.

"Hey, honey. You better now?"

"I'm... Sleepy..."

"Come into bed. Get some sleep."

"Sheep..."

"Sure, okay, sheep. Catch some sheep."

"Sheepy time..," Haku mumbled, snuggling in next to Neru.

"Goodnight, baby."

"Fluffy... Cute... Sheep..."

At first thought, Neru thought she was being kidnapped. She felt a cover go over her head, and a slight kick, followed by fast footsteps. She kicked the sheet away.

She was still in her own bed. It was simply the blanket that had gone over her head. She turned over. The mattress still had the indent of Haku's body.

Neru got up, and sat on the edge of her bed. She peered out of the door, where she could see the bathroom. The door was shut.

"Thanks for closing it," she said to herself, before laying back down and pulling the covers back over herself. She shut her eyes, and went back to sleep.

Or, it felt like she was sleeping. She had definitely lost control of her limbs. She could feel Haku get back into bed, cuddling up to her. She tried to move to return it, but she couldn't move. She, instead, tried to speak.

"ᴬᴿᴱ ᵞᴼᵁ ᴼᴷᴬᵞ?" Came the squeak from her mouth.

"Not especially. But I'll be fine."

"ᴵ ᵀᴴᴵᴺᴷ ᴵ ᴴᴬᵛᴱ ˢᴼᴹᴱ ᶠᴼᴿᴹ ᴼᶠ ˢᴸᴱᴱᴾ ᴾᴬᴿᴬᴸᵞˢᴵˢ, ˢᴼ ᴵ ᶜᴬᴺ'ᵀ ᶜᵁᴰᴰᴸᴱ ᵞᴼᵁ."

"It's okay. You sound like you need some water. I'll get so-"

"N-no! No. It's okay. Don't get out of bed."

"I'll need to move. Or I will vomit all over your bed."

"Is that a threat?"

"You know it, b."

"Can you like... Lift my arms and legs?"

"Excuse me? You want to the bridal style lift you?"

"No, dumbass. One by one. So I can actually move them."

"Alright. Tell me if it hurts."

Haku gently lifted and put down Neru's arms and legs. Neru got the feeling in her limbs back. She leaned over the put her arms over Haku.

"Ah, ah, ah. Don't touch me."

"Huh? Why?"

"Or I'll feel like I won't be able to move, which'll make me panic.'

"Oh. Sorry."

"It's fine! Don't worry about it."

"Well, now I can actually move, do you need anything?"

"Yeah. Paracetamol and like, 5 litres of water."

"Well, we certainly have water bottles but probably not 5 whole litres."

"Please hurry. It hurts so bad..."

"Alright. I'll be as quick as I can."

Neru hurried down the stairs, filling a bottle of water and picking up a packet of medicine. As she was walking back up the stairs, she saw a blur of colour shoot towards the bathroom and the door slam shut.

Neru went into the bedroom and placed the water and pills on the bedside table. She sat on the bed and turned on the TV.

"Ugh, I feel like shit," Haku groaned, coming back into the room.

"Oh, honey. Look, there's your pills and water. Sit and watch some TV."

"I just want to fall asleep."

"Okay, yeah, you can do that. Do you want the covers?"

"No, it's fine."

"Alright. I love you~"

"Thank you. I love you too."

Haku shut her eyes, and curled up. She soon enough was asleep. Neru pulled the covers over her and herself and decided she would sleep too.
