Mark's P.O.V.

I walk past an alleyway on my way home. It's not too late, but late enough to be dark. A sound emits from the hallway of darkness. My first instinct is to flee, but upon closer inspection, I see a small human shape. "Hello?" I say. It's to dark to see close features, but I can see the person, who appears to be a child, wide eyes stare at me in fear. "Hey, do you need help?" I ask, making sure to use a cautious voice. The child starts sprinting down the alleyway. "Hey, wait, I just want to help!" I chase after them. I chase them through the alleyway, onto an empty street they cross, and into another alleyway, this one being a dead end. The child stares at the wall, then turns back to me. The child slide down the wall sobbing. "Please. Don't hurt me."

I crouch to their level. I can see now, up close, it a girl with matted (h/c) hair. Her clothes are covered in dirt and who knows what else and has multiple rips. I use a soft tone when speaking. "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to help. What's your name?" They look at me, and shake their head. "Okay. That's fine. I'm Mark." She looks me over. "I know." I give a small smile. "Ah you know who I am." She nods. "Now that your closer." She says. "Sorry I scared you. I just want to help. Why aren't you with someone?" She contemplates telling me. "I promise you can trust me. I just want to help."

She looks at me directly in the eye. "They don't want me. They kicked me out." I tilt my head. "They? You're family?" She nods. "Well you can't stay here. Let get you somewhere safe. The police can help you get to foster care, and..." I break off as she shakes her head violently. "Policemen.....scare me." Okay....What the hell am I going to do. She's to timid to go to the police. Something bad must have happened at home for her to have no trust. But she can't stay here. She seems to have some trust in me, so I decide to push it a little. "Okay, how about this. You come with me, you come to my house. You can stay with me and my girlfriend, Amy, and get some place to stay."

She looks shocked. "I-I don't know." I look at her sympathetically. "Amy won't hurt you either." I reassure. "It's not Amy I'm worried about." She says quietly. That's when I realize. Policemen scare her, I scare her. Something her father did? "I promise, I'm not going to hurt you." I reassure. "I want to trust you. Really I do, I watched you before all this, but it's hard." I sigh. "You have to get out of the streets. If anything I do scares you, let me know, and I will stop. Okay?" She nods, and starts to stand. She wobbles a little, probably from malnutrition, but quickly recovers. I lead her out of the alleyway, and we start towards my house. I notice that she keeps a small distance from me. "So, how old are you?" She is silent for a few minutes. "Thirteen." I nod.

(Y/n) P.O.V.

I didn't know whether to trust him or not. Part of me knows he wouldn't do anything, but despite being short he is muscular and strong. It made me afraid. Adults scared me, but particularly men. Everytime I even walked by my father he yelled, shouted, or beat me.It was worse when his 'friends' were around. He was a drug dealer and addict. These men were his dealers. They also took a swing at me. My mother didn't leave him, never defended me, and she too took a turn if she was really angry.

"There is an empty guest room in the house that you can sleep in. " Mark says, breaking silence. "Okay." I respond. "Do you like dogs?" Mark asks. I smile a little. Dogs are way better then people. "I love them." I tell him. He grins. "Good. There are two dogs at my house." "I know." "Right, sorry." We walk the rest of the way in silence. It's not that far, but it's a lot in my state. Mark unlocks the door, and are smothered by his two dogs as we step in. "Mark, is that- Hello?" Amy walks into the room, confused to see me. "Um, hi." I wave a little. "Go sit down (Y/n). We'll be right back." Mark and Amy go into what looks like the kitchen. I know what they're talking about. I sit on the floor, petting the two curious dogs. "Whose the best little puppos. You guys, yes you." I coo.

Mark and Amy walk back into the room. I'm engulfed in a hug by Amy, to which I stiffen greatly. She notices and pulls away. "Let's get some food. How does that sound?" I only nods, and she smiles encouragingly. We all go to the kitchen where I watch Mark make mac & cheese. At one point, Mark drops the spoon he was using to stir. It made a loud crash and Mark cussed at his mistake. I freak out a little, and cowered. He sees me flinches as he looks up. "Sorry. You okay?" I'm a little shocked, nobody ever asks me that. I nod.

I grew more comfortable with them as we ate, I told them more about myself and talked a little bit louder. I still got a bit scared at loud noises, and I'm afraid that they too will turn on me, but I put it aside right now. Finally, they lead me to what will be my room. "Good night (Y/n). Tomorrow we will go and get you some new clothes." Amy says. I'm currently wearing a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt of hers after showering. I nod, and thank her. Before I go into the room, I hug them both tightly. "Welcome home, (Y/n)."
