CHAPTER 31

The Sprite kingdom was fashioned in harmony with nature. Rather than buildings, the Sprites used abandon birds nest, mud, sticks, branches, vines, and beeswax to create their homes. Instead of forcing the landscape to suit their needs, they built around the hills, hallows, and trees.

^Asiling^

Asiling used elven, a race of long deceased fairies, magic to shrink Roger to the height of an average male Sprite, which was roughly 6 inches.

The Sprite Queen, Rosa, had ruled over the fairy world for centuries. But now shadows have begun to haunt her dreams.

"Hunter Evans! It is good to see you again." her soft melodic voice sang out.

"Your majesty. It has been many years but you look as lovely as ever." Roger said truthfully. All of the fairy folk maintain a beautiful and youthful appearance and despite her age the queen remains forever young. Her bright moss green eyes twinkled like dew caught in the sunlight, while her tawny blonde curls floated around her shoulders in gorgeous disarray.

"Why thank you." she preened before saying, "We have much to discuss but first it would be best if you eat and rest." Queen Rosa waved a Sprite in a maid's outfit over.

Knowing that he could not decline without seeming rude, Roger followed the maid. He was given a mushroom stew and dandelion greens salad; for dessert gooseberry tarts. The Sprites were able to grow their food daily. In colder weather, light, water, and nature Sprites worked together to help the plants grow while everyone else was given the assignments to help tend the garden or cook the meals.

After eating the light meal, knowing a bigger dinner awaited him, Roger laid on a comfortable down mattress. He took a brief nap until the maid came to let him know that the queen was ready to speak to him. He was lead to a dining hall where all the fairy folk usually gathered and ate together. Given the lateness of the hour and the emptiness of the hall, Roger assumed that dinner had already been served and cleared for the rest of the fairy folk. Now all that remained was the queen and himself.
