GILBERT and ANNE

When class ended at three o'clock in the afternoon, Gilbert got up and reached the door before Anne, but she passed him without even looking him in the eye. Angry, Gilbert held her by the wrist, and pulled her close to him.

- What do you think you are doing, Blythe? What's all this about grabbing me all the time? - Anne asked in a terrible mood.

- If you'd talk to me, I wouldn't have to hold you like that. - Gilbert also replied, showing all his irritation.

- I have nothing to talk to you about. - Anne said, pushing him away..

- You know very well that we have to talk about what happened. - Gilbert insisted.

Anne lowered her eyes for a moment. That boy wasn't going to leave her alone. She had to get out of there or she'd end up betraying herself, because he was already feeling palpitations in her heart. Even though they were keeping their voices down, she realized Ruby was watching them with interest. Only God knew what was going on in her head. The idea of running away from there was becoming more and more attractive.

- Let me, Blythe. I won't talk to you. - Saying that, she rushed out of school and headed for the woods, where the book club she'd built with Diana and Ruby times ago was still the best place to hide.

Gilbert saw her leave and decided to follow her, he couldn't let her go without having a concrete answer about her feelings for him.

They walked through the forest for a few minutes at a certain distance from each other. Anne realized that he was after her, and that she had nothing to do, because there was no way to escape from him now. She stopped in front of her little club and Gilbert came towards her. He looked curious for a few moments at the little building all decorated and asked;

- What is this place, Anne?

- It's my book club. - the little girl replied moody.

- A book club in the middle of the forest? How interesting! May I come in? - I wanted to know.

- No, you can't! - But he didn't pay attention to her and just walked in. "What an annoying boy!" Why doesn't he leave me alone?

- Okay, Blythe. Now that you've entered uninvited, will you tell me what you want?- Anne sked impatiently.

Gilbert didn't answer, because he was impressed by that place. Anne had created a magical world there in the middle of the forest, He could almost see her lost among thousands of books in that enchanting paradise.

- What a lovely place! Do you always come here?

- Every day to write my stories. - Anne answered. "Why doesn't he say what he wants?" she thought.

- And am I not part of these stories? Perhaps as Prince Charming? - he joked.

- How narcissistic you are, Blythe! Who says I think of you when I write? Your excess ego has no end.

At this moment Gilbert's eyes was drawn to an envelope that contained a handwriting he knew well, and he said:

- Do you mean you never think about me? That I am not the object of his inspiration?

- Of course not, why should you be?

- Then why do you keep the letter I sent you months ago inside that beautiful little box? - Gilbert showed the envelope triumphantly.

Anne was livid and wanted to be swallowed up by an earthquake. "What the hell?" Anne. Why didn't you keep that letter somewhere else?" Stupid, clueless, dumb!"

- Blythe, if you're not going to say what you want, then go away and leave alone. - she said, trying to escape the question he had asked her.

- I'm not leaving. You've been running away from me all day, and I want to know why. - Gilbert answered decisively.

- I wasn't running away from you. - I just... - and had a fright when Gilbert got very close and took her face in his hands. Oh, God. Why can't I be indifferent when he looks at me like that? And that smile? Why does it charm me so much?

Gilbert watched her closely, his eyes running all over her face until it posed on her lips. He wanted to kiss her again, and he would dot it now. He got closer and closer and then he kissed her, and again the magic happened. They were sailing together in an ocean of sensations. She threw her arms around his neck without resistance.

Anne didn't stop the kiss, and she realized she'd been waiting for it all day. He seduced her soul, it was in her blood, how to escape? She knew he shouldn't, but his inner voice said, "Why not"? Why was it so wrong to be with someone you love? Why could she not give herself that pleasure?

But inside her the battle continued, between reason and desire her senses seemed completely out of control. Tears of unhappiness began to roll from her eyes. Gilbert parted from her as he tasted the tears in his mouth. Was Anne crying? Why was she crying? Then he leaned his forehead against hers and asked:

- Did I hurt you? I'm sorry, Anne. I didn't mean to force you into anything. It was stronger than me. - he said unhappy.

- You didn't hurt me. - she just said.

- Then why are you crying?" asked Gilbert confused.

- I can't talk about it, Anne said in despair. How was she supposed to say she was crying because she knew that being with him was impossible for her? That because of a promise she'd made she couldn't allow herself to love him, and confessing that to him was out of the question?

- Why not? -,Gilbert kept insisting on stroking her hair.

- For God's sake, Gilbert. Will you stop insisting? I didn't give you permission to kiss me whenever you want.

- I didn't know I had to ask. - he said trying to provoke her.

- How arrogant you are, Gilbert Blythe. - Anne said with irony, trying to disguise her feelings.

- You've told me that before. I mean it, Anne. Let's talk," Gilbert said coming up again.

- Talk about what? – Anne asked.

- About our feelings. - he said patiently.

- There is no feeling.

- How can there be no feeling? That's the second time we've kissed, and you're going to tell me I did it alone?

- Okay. I have to admit part of it was my fault. But it's just that you talk so much that you confuses me," Anne said, desperate to escape him.

- Oh, now I confuse you?

Yeah, you confuse me, piss me off and annoy me. "and he also enchants you, makes you fall in love, makes you vibrate" - a little voice inside her screamed. Shut up, brain! Anne thought in anger.

- Anne, I really need to talk to you. - Now he was almost begging.

- Blythe, give me a break, will you? I need time to think. - she begged, too.

- It's okay. I'll give you the time you need. But do you promise you'll really think about us?

- I promise. - Anne said. She was crazy to end it.

- We'll see each other at school then - he said goodbye, at the last minute he surprised her and kissed her softly on the lips.

Anne watched him walk away with her heart in tatters. What a problem she'd caused herself ! She really had a talent for getting into trouble.
