   GILBERT

Gilbert looked at the rain falling like tears, wetting everything around him. Tears that he hadn't shed, because he was so disappointed that crying wouldn't bring the breath he needed.

Sitting on his balcony, he searched for words to describe his state of mind, but the only one he found was "desert". Yes, there was a desert where before there was a heart, and all because he had lost the most precious thing he had.

However, only one thought occurred to him now. Would Anne ever be out of it? It couldn't be a lie all they experienced together. He refused to believe that she had pretended so much. But the image of her embracing Cole still made him angry, it was as if he were reliving it all again, and the same pain struck him like a knife.

What the hell was that love that he felt that wouldn't leave him alone for a second? His ground was taken away, and it seemed as if he was walking on embers, his soul bleeding and in pieces.

He stood up and let the cold air that came from the rain hit his face. Gilbert needed something to ease his agony, but he found no solace in anything.

When he arrived home in his clothes soaked from his walk through the forest, he hoped to find Bash and put out everything he was feeling. Unfortunately, Sebastian wasn't there, he'd left a note for Gilbert telling him he'd be spending the night at Mary's and he should not wait for him to dinner. The boy sighed deeply, and then got rid of his wet clothes, took a hot bath and put on some comfortable pajamas. He hated eating alone, so he didn't feel like cooking dinner, just prepared a hot chocolate and went to take it on the veranda where he stayed until that moment.

The rain didn't let up, and Gilbert was under the impression that it would continue until dawn. Since he was alone, he thought that the best option would be to go to bed, since he didn't feel like reading a book or studying the contents he used to review at night. He turned to enter, but then he saw a shadow appear in the darkness. Who would that be? Had Bash changed his mind and decided to go home? However, on closer inspection, he saw that the person walking towards him was a little lower and more frowned upon than Bash, and when he stared he recognized who he was.

Cole! How did he dare to appear there in the middle of that storm after what had happened that afternoon? Did he come to mock him? Gilbert didn't feel like talking to that boy, he was going to walk in and slam the door in his face, but his good manners didn't allow it. He waited impassively for Cole to come to his balcony with an umbrella in his hands and his hair damp for the long walk, and heard him say it;

- Good night, Gilbert. I'm sorry to show up here like this without warning, and I know I'm probably the last person in the world you want to talk to, but I needed to come here and face you or I wouldn't forgive myself.

- I don't know what you have to say to me. - Gilbert answered with a serious face.

- Gilbert, I wouldn't come here if I didn't know that what I have to tell you is very important to both you and Anne.

- Don't get me wrong, Cole, but I don't want to talk about her. I'm very hurt and it won't do me any good to discuss the relationship between you two. - said Gilbert, already preparing to dismiss the boy.

- Anne and I are just friends. There's nothing more between us than that. - replied Cole. He had to make Gilbert listen to him, Anne's happiness depended on it.

- Look, Cole. You didn't have to come all this way trying to convince me of something that's not true. I saw you two, nobody told me.

- What you saw Gilbert was the affection of someone trying to calm down his best friend.
