Chapter 2

Asher's POV

From: Dad

Please come home early. We'll eat outside to celebrate and welcome her back.

Shit! Celebrate? Tsk.

May mas isasama pa ba ang araw na to? Badtrip!

To: Dad

Dad, is it okay if dun na ako dumiretso? I still have lots of things to do. I won't be late. I swear.

I don't want to disappoint my Dad but I also don't want to see her. Less time with her, much better for me. Nag-vibrate uli yung phone ko so I immediately grab it.

From: Dad

Sure. Just don't be late, okay? She missed you so much. Don't disappoint me, Asher.

Missed? Missed my face! She missed me because she missed ruining my life!

To: Dad

Okay, Dad. Take care. I love you.

Malapit lang naman yung restaurant sa school so I won't be late.

Pagkapasok ko ay nandoon na kaagad sila. My Dad looked at me and then to his watch. He looked at me again and then smiled.

"You're not late. In fact, you're early. That's good."

I smiled back at him then look for a vacant chair. And oh! I found one. Guess who's sitting beside that chair?

Damn! It's her.

"How's your life in Canada, hija?" Dad asked her.

"It's really fun po. I was one year po accelerated so ngayon po ay nasa 4th year highschool na rin po ako dito sa Philippines."

"Wow! That's good. So where do you plan to continue your studies?"

"I was thinking about continuing my studies at MU." Maxwell University?! Damn! Nananadya ka ba talaga, Yvette?

"Oh. Why there?"

"Well actually, MU is not my first choice. I was just visiting the school and roaming around there when I saw Cassandra and now I have a reason to study there."

"Wait. You mean Cassandra Ignacio? You're best friend since elementary, hija?"

"Yes po."

"That would be great. Do you need help in applying for the university?"

"No. I will be fine. Everything's okay na naman po. I already took the entrance exam and I passed so there's nothing more to worry about."

"Are you sure everything's already settled?"

"Yes po. I'm very sure."

"Okay. But if there's anything wrong or if there's any problem you could always contact me."

Darn! She'll be studying in MU. The same school where I'm studying.

This is great! Note the sarcasm please.

I can't feel anything but anger and hatred. My Dad's attention is always at her. Sila lang dalawa ang naguusap.

"Hijo, are you okay? Kanina mo pa nilalaro yang pagkain mo. Don't you like the food?" I looked at her and it feels so awkward when I saw concern in her eyes.

"Yes, I'm fine. Busog na rin po kasi ako." Sabi ko na lang. Wala na talaga akong gana sa lahat. Gusto ko na lang umuwi.

"Kahit busog ka na, you should never play with food." Pagalit na singit ni Daddy sa usapan.

"I'm sorry." Nakatungo kong sabi.

"Zach, you don't need to get angry at little things like that."

"What do you want me to do, Sandra? Act like I'm blind and pretend that what he's doing is still okay?"

"I'm not saying that! I'm just saying that you don't have to get mad at your son!"

"I'm not mad, Sandra! I'm just-"

"Are you two fighting again?" Natahimik silang dalawa nung nagsalita si Yvette. Right. Yvette's the only one who could make them stop arguing.

"No, sweetie. Don't worry. Everything's fine."

I turned to look at her and I'm not sure If I really saw pain and sadness in her eyes. Maybe not. Why would she feel sad and pain if she already has everything? Her life's perfect.

Mine? My life is a mess... It all started when she was born. She made my life a living hell.

"Anyway, sweetie? I'm sure you'll have fun in your new school. Just don't forget to call me, okay? I'll be back after a few months. If you have any problem, I'm sure Asher can help you." What the hell? Gagawin pa talaga nila ako baby sitter ng anak nila?!

"Oh. Asher, you're studying at MU, right? I forgot. Anyway, watch your sister. Be sure that you would take care of her, okay?"

"She's not a baby anymore! She could probably take a good care of herself!" That's what I really wanted to say but I don't want my Dad to get angry at me. He cares for her daughter more then he cares for me. Oh wait. Does he even have care for me? I guess none.

But the thing is, i can't even be mad at him for not caring for me. I still love him even if all he thinks about is her, his legitimate daughter.

Yes, Yvette's my sister. Half-sister to be exact and I swear I hate her to death.
